The Tour Of France 2021

I thought you'd never ask! Lightweight Fernweg 80. Got them second hand for cheap. Haven't even fitted them yet. I just stare at them.

They’re a beautiful object, but unless you’re racing/have a team car following you, riding tubs on UK roads seems to be asking for trouble.

I'd be far too worried about damaging them.

Also what is it about Lightweight that they make wheels that cost more than most bikes, but their typography looks like it was knocked up in Mircosoft word?

I look at it quite differently. It's all about pleasure and efficiency. I don't race - I hate training. I just want to cruise quite fast without trying uncomfortably hard or wasting effort. I had some standard Lightweights years ago. They were 55mm deep I think. They give you such a boost that when you're riding with other people you have to keep freewheeling to stay with them. It's hilarious. I reckon they give you a similar advantage to an e-bike. But without the weight to drag up hills. They were stolen and I've been mourning them terribly for years. So I decided to cash in some of my pension and replace them. I was going to get another standard pair but I saw these advertised and was seduced. They're so extreme....£4600 new in Europe. Just mad really. But you only live once. They were pretty much new but the guy took £2100 for them. He was probably struggling to find a buyer. They'd just been replaced by Lightweight with a more aero model, and they're for tubs and rim brakes.

As for punctures, sealant sorts them unless you're very unlucky, and it's quicker to fit a spare tub than it is to mend a puncture in an inner tube.

They'd be lighter without that Lightweight written on them.

Micrograms could be the difference between winning and losing, and I'm presuming you didn't buy them for a pub ride

They're pretty bomb-proof. Zabel made his last for years and years. The factory tries to offer affordable repairs if you break them.

I agree about the lettering, it's embarrassing. I'm gradually removing it. I hate big logos anyway.

Look, I've got this bridge right - absolutely mint condition...

Beautiful they may be, but an eBike advantage? Nah :D

'For cheap' :D

I think I'd probably get myself a trail bike if I had that kind of cash hanging around. Bit daft unless you're actually racing. Bit daft even if you're racing tbh.
I’m not a cyclist, just enjoy watching,so I know nothing about the price of wheels. After reading your comment I googled them! 😱😱😱😱😱😱

I think a bit daft is the understatement of the year!

Have to admit I had no idea MVDP was Poulidor's grandson.

The breakdancing kids though... er...

Is there any chance of Cavendish winning a stage? I can't see him beating a sprinter in a fair fight, but is there a remote chance of his team somehow delivering him early?

His form recently has shown he’s capable. And his lead out will be good. There’s a chance. But, there’s some solid opposition here.

He won a stage at Belgian Tour the other week beating Merlier, Ewan and Groenewegen. It was basically the TdF sprinter field minus Demare, in other words the sprinters' equivalent of Suisse or Dauphine.
I don't think Quickstep necessarily have the best sprint train as they're lacking a rouleur like Stybar or Lampaert this time around and there's only so much that his lead-out guy Michael Mörköv can do.
Groupama, Lotto and Alpecin all have excellent lead-out trains, though Lotto sometime have an off day and Ewan gets lost so he won't win all 8 sprint stages.

Dammit. So close for Ludwig. Well played by SD Workx though.
After watching that I'm really unsure who can win the stage later but just laid a small bet on who I want to win - Ala.

I hate to say this, but I just can't get into women's road racing. I love their track racing but the road racing looks so slow on the telly. I don't think they will ever get parity with the men. Unless they can persuade more women to watch...which I can't imagine either.

I hear a shark being jumped: Campag claims that the C-Lux wheel finish (Campagnolo-Luxury) “is so pristinely smooth that it doesn’t require lacquer”, and this allows it to save weight.

I like it because the tactics are somewhat different to the men, often making for more varied racing.

Team Fracking have ditched their Lightweight Meilensteins in favour of the Princeton Carbonworks 4550. Better braking and handling apparently.
