The New Tories - Ruthlessly Incompetent. Post Examples of Tory Stupidity Here

More problems for them, apparently the West Yorkshire police are now investigating Frank Hester, that donor, for his comments.

Problems for them? Hardly.

Police forces have to open an investigation whenever lots of complaints are made. Hester’s remarks will not meet any kind of threshold for prosecution and his lawyers would be very unlikely to accept an out of court disposal. Then when WYP announce that they are taking no further action, Tories questioned about the affair will blank questions about whether Hester is an acceptable donor by saying that the police found nothing criminal.

The problem for them, is that it has brought the story back into the news, just when it was dying out, and it will continue to bounce around for an extended period now.

Nah. WYP won’t say anything further for ages, and Tories have the current get-out that they cannot comment on an ongoing investigation.

Without being too wanky, I'm trying to get the production reference - is it a general 1950s/60s US 'nuclear threat/space aliens' type voiceover, or is there something more specific..

The worrying thing about this video, is I expect some folk outside London believe it:

[sorry, can't find it non-twitter]

The Commissioner is accountable in law for exercising police powers and to the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) and is held to account for the delivery of policing by the Home Secretary and the Mayor of London. Both have a role in appointing the Commissioner, with the decision taken by the Home Secretary following consultation with the Mayor. MET LINK

Funny how they totally ignore the Home Secretary's oversight.

The shape of things to come:

"The Conservatives have deleted an online video that used scenes of a panicked crowd at a New York subway station to criticise Sadiq Khan’s record on crime in London.

The attack ad, posted on X in support of Susan Hall – Khan’s rival for the London mayoralty, showed people panicking and rushing through New York’s Penn station after false reports of gunfire in 2017 ..."

Tories delete Sadiq Khan attack ad showing New York instead of London

It's Trumpian:

Khan was elected in a democratic process...

In the original black-and-white video, the scenes of a stampede at New York's Penn Station in 2017 were overlaid with a US-accented narrator making alleged claims, including: "A 54% increase in knife crime since the Labour mayor seized power has the metropolis teetering on the brink of chaos.

He 'seized power'

The video also warned of "squads of Ulez-enforcers dressed in black, faces covered with masks, terrorising communities at the beck and call of their Labour mayor master, who has implemented a tax on driving, forcing people to stay inside or go underground".

Khan has implemented a tax on driving now. Road fund licence, fuel duty, VAT etc. But no, Khan's implemented the tax.

I would have hoped the Electoral Commission would have the teeth to deal with this kind of shit, it's personal and inflammatory and really has no place in democratic politics.

They know they've got a useless, thick, media-dunce for a candidate and this is all they have. Desperate doesn't cover it.

From an article about two more ministers stepping down:
It is certainly not a bombshell blow to the PM - but the resignations are part of a trend. Of the 98 MPs who have announced they will not stand at the next election, most are Conservatives.

Some, like Theresa May and Dominic Raab, are veterans. Others, like Dehenna Davison and Nicola Richards, relatively young and new to the Commons.

All of them want to do something else with their lives.

Suggestions welcome.
