The Ashes 2021/22

They did manage to bowl 89 overs this time so might actually get paid. Although Root was blatantly bowling himself more than usual to speed things up.

He's there because he's a batsman, if the actual fucking batsman put a turn in we could pick a wicket keeper. Heard a few questions asked about why Bairstow isn't playing, sure he has his vulnerabilities, but I feel he's strongeat in the WK slot.

The problem today was no Woods. All this talk about how we didnt have a out and out pace bowler when it comes to touring Australia for year on year. Archer gets hailed as the man that can, and yes, be great to see him fit and out there. But woods is the quickest in the series and bowled well last test without much reward and yet on the bench. Unbelievable

And come on, is anyone gonna ask about stokes form? Relegated to a short leg side field because he actually can't do anything else right now

Stokes is a batter who bowls. He's always been expensive with the ball, but capable of taking wickets and getting swing on occasion, and he's the one who does the short theory stuff occasionally a la Neil Wagner (but not as good at it as Neil Wagner) when the ball gets soft. He's the fourth seamer, or fifth seamer in this team.

I'd have played Wood as well, but take those catches and England wouldn't have done so bad necessarily. 220-2 looks good. 220-5 would not have looked good at all.

A very good toss to win, unfortunately, but England are not quite out of it yet. Aus need one more good session to be properly on top.

I didn't watch any of it, but the stats were saying that only 5 % of the balls would have hit the stumps yesterday. A case of Anderson and Broad bowling dry at the expense of taking edges? It wouldn't be the first time.

Finally got a wicket, but jesus christ the dropped catches and fielding from England

Broad and Anderson both bowling pointless stuff, aim at the sodding wicket occasionally!

Is there anyone else on tour who can open? Burns is shot.
Crawley would be next up - assuming his form and confidence are there. Form obviously not as he hasn't had a hit. Or whoever they might pull from the Lions squad. But Crawley first up? I'd stick with Burns.

Ultimately there just aren't any genuine test quality openers available to England are there. There's not really much point continually blaming selection when the options aren't there. I think they probably need to take a good look at why that is (and for other roles as well) and start planning properly for how they get talented 12-14 year olds coming through in the test team in 8-10 years time. A longer term approach has worked for the football team.

Crawley couldn't do worse than Burns though. If he fails in the second innings he's surely gonna be given a 'rest'

If you only give batters 2 tests in a 5 test series and the stand in also fails in their 2 tests, who do you turn to then?

Can't see them dropping him after 2. But then I wouldn't pick 5 right arm seamers so what do I know.

0, 13 and 4 so far, I think they said.

Yeah let's extend that a little. Last 11 innings?

0, 0, 18, 49, 0, 61, 5, 50, 0, 13, 4

200 runs in 11 innings, average 18.18

Quite funny on howSTAT they give his 1st innings at Adelaide as "Did Not Bat".

No, he didn't really did he? You can't have your bat coming down at that angle and not constantly get into trouble. His technique is shite and he doesn't get away with it much.

At all atm.

The attack is very very monotone. Woakes looked like a village cricketer. He was 103-0 before that final wild swing from the no.10 with nothing to lose. Stokes is the most threatening bowler and he's also expected to be the second best batsman in the side. Ridiculous.

Shelling catches, weird bowling, an xi with more dead weight than Bob Maxwell's coffin - I saw the Guardian OBO say England just don't deserve to win a Test this series due to their performance, tactics and leadership.
