The Ashes 2019

I missed the morning session but as they left the field, Stokes apparently told Warner he was 'a fucking prick'. Warner would have know that already to be fair. Then Tim Pain was chirping to Stokes about Bristol after lunch. The post-match drinks in the dressing room could be interesting.

Oval sledging by Australia features added layer of menace as hard-fought Ashes series heats up

Apparently someone, and Stokes must be favourite, called them 'a bunch of cunts' when they were in a huddle in a previous match. Which was a bit harsh on Tim Paine.

Edit. Or maybe not harsh now I've read your link edit.

It's a proper rivalry. I'm not much of a cricket fan myself, I've never played the game and you'll not see me missing much to watch a game but I do love the Ashes :D

Bit odd who the nasty twats are in this Aus team.

Smith is a genius with the bat. So why he continues to act like a prick is beyond me. Even down to his shitty glasses celebration after winning the last test. Graceless, to say the least, and of course he has a pretty long history for being a twat even before the sandpaper. Warner continues to be a wanker. Lyon continues to be a bit of a wanker as well, like he's trying to impress someone, probably Smith. Then there's now Wade and even Paine joining in.

The ones who're supposed to be up the other team's noses, supposedly, are the fast bowlers. Yet Cummins is very nice by all accounts, and looks it. Siddle is very straightforward and seems a solid bloke. Starc is very decent. They should have a quiet word with their idiot batsmen. Hey just just shut the fuck up and concentrate and stop dropping catches. Leave the rest to us.

Today they looked like a team who want to go home. Labuschagne looked like he wanted to punch someone the whole time he was bowling. Smith looks insulted to be on the same pitch as Paine. Hazelwood looked like he wasn't overly trying. And Wade got sent to the boundary presumably to shut him up. They don t look like a team capable of trying to score 400 to win. Except Smith.

No excuse for Labuschagne, mind. He was planning to be over here anyway, he's at the start of his test career and should be full of beans. Wade should be totally switched on or tomorrow might be his last innings in test cricket for a while. Hazlewood didn't play the WC, and this test tour hasn't been overly long by Ashes standards. I don't doubt that Smith thinks he should be captain. Hell, Paine probably thinks Smith should be captain.

I think they celebrated a little too hard last week. They hadn't won the series, and look like they won't win the series. And now they're grumpy about that. At the moment, all the talk is of them retaining the Ashes, but in 20 years' time, this won't be remembered as the series when Aus retained the Ashes, assuming England win here. It will be remembered as a tied series.

Compare and contrast with the determination India had to win a series in Aus for the first time. Retaining the Gavaskar-Border trophy wasn't nearly enough for that India team.

...And Pattinson has a column on BBC sport site about having English sympathies (I haven't read it tbf ).

Agree with all of the above though. I assume the bowlers must be keeping their heads down after dodging culpability on sandpaper gate (where their innocence is really only believed by people that haven't ever picked up a cricket ball).

How dim and untrustworthy must the rest of the Australian team be, if Tim Paine is the considered the player - not disgraced by sandpaper-gate - most worthy of leading the side (and making decisions on the reviews)?

This Steve Smith?

Exactly. When England won Down Under in 2010/11 The Ashes were retained by winning the penultimate game in Melbourne, but we still finished the job with another big win in Sydney to take the series 3-1. If we'd lost there and drawn the series I doubt that team would now have its legendary status just for retaining the trophy.

Aussies need around 400 to win (more if Archer/Leach/Broad lash out:hmm: They'll need at least a double century from Smith and he hasn't got one of those in his last 2 innings

Warner the opener whose combined runs over the whole series were less than 100!

David Warner's every waking moment is filled with thoughts of Stuart Broad. And when he sleeps, nightmares of Stuart Broad.

Just retire, now. Cheat.

Lowest test series score by an opener, ever (for a 5+ test series). In the history of cricket. The long, long history of cricket.

A record never to be beaten. A record of catastrophic, never ending incompetence. Sandpaper and incompetence. There's your legacy, cheat.
