The Swiss are sensible. Americans not so much the whole Milita concept was the founding furthers couldn’t afford a standing army it never really worked.

Sure it's been pointed out before on this thread that in the eighteenth century no greater enemy to liberty than a standing army could be imagined so it's not they couldn't afford it, it's more they didn't want one

As for the Swiss they have a proud military tradition going back hundreds of years to when Swiss mercenaries were the ones to have - see eg the papal Swiss guards. But they largely stopped hiring themselves out after the sanguinary battle of bicocca 1522

It's really scary to have mass murderers on the loose for five days. I'm glad it's over and no more innocents were harmed.

That turned out to be illness, not badness - the killer had undiagnosed schizophrenia and he was released years ago.
