I am not able to watch you link (internet speed), but am interested in what he has to say about shoes.

For decades now both Quebec and Muslim mass shootings often show shoes of the victims from mass shootings. I wonder if he used these examples to make his point.

I think the point McConaughey was making was that the AR-15-style rifle the Uvalde gunman was legally allowed to buy with no waiting period as soon as he turned 18 obliterated 10-year-old Maite Rodriguez so effectively that she could only be identified from her shoes, not seeing much of a Quebec connection there.

You know there are multiple memorials around the world that are just shoes? It's not 'swiped from Quebec'... they're personal items that are relatively likely to remain intact. Odd thing to focus on.

I thought it was an excellent speech filled with a lot of tender references. I particularly liked how he presented the aspirations and hopes of some of the deceased and then hammered home at the end how gun violence shouldn't prevent anyone from having dreams.

Politically, it was not overly radical and was at pains to avoid any battle-lines, presenting the case for a responsible interpretation of the 2nd amendment. It would take a special kind of misanthropic gun-nut to criticise that speech.

Except for 7th Jan and 18th Feb, all Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays have had at least one mass shooting in the US so far this year.

There are some days off but all in the Monday to Thursday zone aside from those two. Most days have multiple shootings (a mean of 1.84 per day).

7th - 10th Feb inclusive was an anomalously long gap with every day in the Mon-Thur zone being free of mass shootings that week.

Wonder what happened that week…
