Tales of failure. What skills or achievements did you hope to acquire during lockdown?

I planned to stop drinking and haven't remotely done that.

I planned to get sketching again and work through an art book I have, but have been frustrated by having nothing to sketch when stuck in the flat. I mean there's only so many times you can draw the same half empty wine bottle or arrangement of shit on the desk.

I also planned to learn to ride a kick scooter properly, which I have not done, and which trying to achieve I think contributed to my fucking my foot up, stopping me from exercising properly (which I hadn't planned to do but started anyway and was actually consistent at) and meaning I can't even go out for walks at more than a hobble, both of which were the only two things I felt positive about so that's great.

I've sort of done the opposite in that I told myself I'd stop pissing about with the ukulele and play my grown up guitar instead but ended up getting better at the uke because it doesn't wake everyone up. I'm still shit though.

Thought I'd do a load of painting and planned a series of paintings for the next local art exhibition but haven't picked up a brush. Planned to go for a walk every day, haven't done that either.

I have however learned to crochet and made a blanket, made endless fabric masks out of a pile of fabric scraps, learned to cross stitch, and serviced my sewing machine. Oh and did the garden planting bit and now have enough slowly ripened tomatoes and peppers to supply Tesco. And cucumbers. And courgettes. And cucamelons. And potatoes. And French beans....

Was going to play the guitar every day, finish off the album that Mr K and I have had on the back burner for about twenty years, exercise every day and complete at least one work-relevant MOOC.

Instead I got promoted and ended up working harder than I ever have in my life, plus knackered my back in the first week of lockdown. So whilst I have achieved loads, none of it was what I'd planned for.

Was going to start a new writing project. Plenty of material gathered then all enthusiasm slowly ebbed away. Also started following some web coding courses on freeCodeCamp but . . .

On the plus side am now really good at Plants Vs Zombies.

I was going to finish redrafting my novel but unfortunately it's about a pandemic and I fear there may be little market for it.

Start running again and drink less.

Have built a nice outdoor table, sorted my garage out, sorted out the burglar alarm, sorted out a damp problem/ patio door threshold/damp course and taken up close to 8000 parquet floor blocks/fingers though.

I wanted to learn Python, transfer my photos and music to my new laptop, learn Italian etc. Work took off like a barstid so evenings and weekends all I could manage was some light drooling :D

Oh, and replaced all my kitchen down lights and fitted an extra one.

Finally got the other wheel back from rebuilding (with stainless spokes and rim) so OH & I can continue rebuilding my G2CSR.
