Tales of failure. What skills or achievements did you hope to acquire during lockdown?

I don’t want to piss people off, but I had a tonne of plans and have pretty much done all of them. In no particular order regarding chronology or importance, they’ve included: learn Greek (well, it’s not accomplished but I’m pleased with the progress to date), achieve the ability to play Bach Partita 3 on the violin, eBay a load of shit, reclaim the spare room from its junkyard status, reclaim the garden office from its junkyard status, finish this year’s OU module to the level I’d be happy with and walk for more than 90 minutes a day.

I know it’s deeply uncool to want to do things and then do them but I can’t stand not being busy and fuck knows I’m not going to prioritise doing more of my actual work than is strictly necessary...!
Are you always like that though? Someone who gets things done that they plan to do?

aa sono koitsu wa homono obakasama da na.

ugh... that's enough butchering of the Japanese language for now.

With my mind filling in the sentence particles by reaching into the dark bag of my memory i can't imagine how horrific i'm sounding.

I had a long list of things I was going to do to the house... Then the reality kicked in, work went mental and I have had no time to do anything 😕
I've learnt loads of new work skills I suppose. I had no choice though as my job changed overnight. My guitar playing has improved as I've been playing a fair bit more to try and switch off for a bit

Didn't have any plans as such, apart from staying sane. Managed to give myself tennis elbow while repainting the garden fences :( but also managed to stay sane, daily exercise and didn't eat too much sugar/crisps. My guitar playing has improved, I finished another level of my Udemy guitar course (although I had been doing that prior to lockdown anyway). I'm, theoretically at LCM level IV now, I only started playing the guitar over two years ago. Although I have a suspicion I wouldn't pass the actual test for grade IV if I took it.

What else... I taught my 4 year old grand daughter to do cartwheels and now we've moved on to handstands, also doing a fair bit of reading/writing with her.

Our grass is literally very green as I've been taking good care of it :D smug

Nothing of what I wanted to get done (type up my grandpa's diaries and memoirs, try all the video games I have bought but never touched, learn how to play Go and/or Mahjong, lose lots of weight)

HOWEVER

I have helped Mrs SI in dumping over a decade's worth of stuff (filling a skip), bought a new guitar which has got me playing again, been eating more cereal, apples, dates and bananas, started a project to record some of the songs I've written over the years, and haven't had my back to the family playing video games very much (in fact I've not played anything for a week now and had a couple of days where the PC didn't even go on).

I was going to cycle about the place getting super fit, learning all about how to be on the road and things, when there was no traffic (cos lockdown). But I first bought an irreperable heap of junk that gave me a few hours of the freedom of the roads, followed by something that would be infinitely better, but that might arrive at some point in the distant future, should the planets be aligned correctly.

Learn the bagpipes. Seriously, I got a book on line to see what kind of chanter I should buy. My wife saw the book and told me, quite calmly, that she would stab me if I progressed with that plan.

I meant to get my guitar out. I think I should.

I also meant to lose weight, but that hasn't happened either. oh well.

It's like superheroes, if you are into it after about 12 you ought to be ashamed. I'm into kids stuff like star wars and football and playstation, but I have shame. We are meant to think that Last of Us is interesting lol, no
