Six Nations 2021

must admit whilst I thought the lack of fans would kill the tournament

it has produced enjoyable rugby

not sure its good

:hmm:

Anyway, the main event's tomorrow.

IRELAND, IRELAND, together standing tall, SHOULDER TO SHOULDER, we'll answer IRELAND'S CALL!!!!

Gotta be the most stirring song in sport's history when sung at LR against England.

Fuck about hairs going up on you're neck .... gives me a proper stiffy!

(we're gonna lose to franconia tomorrow, innit?) :(

was at croke park

So a few observations on the game:

LRZ is the real fucking deal. Insane pace that gives him a second more than his peers to make and execute decisions. He's going to be very special and without him we'd have lost by a canter.

Townsend fucked up by swapping out a winger for Fagerson rather than a flanker. See the above comment re: LRZ - our greatest threat was out wide and he removed a wide player with an already narrow defensive strategy that left them vulnerable

Wales seem to have acquired a driving line out from somewhere in the last six days

The old guard are shot. The game turned when we brought on two startlingly average halfbacks, who at least provide quick service, to replace Biggar and Davies, both of whom were stinking up the game, and Liam for 1/2p, who is just simply past it and was responsible for the two Scotland tries. Not one of the three should start another game. Props to Pivac for having the guts to change it up after 48 mins.

The red was a red all fucking day.

Our defence, especially on the line, was decent.

We were good on the deck and forced a lot of turnovers. Watson was most definitely not the best 7 on the pitch today.

Our forwards appear to be developing some cohesion and Wyn Jones is currently the form LH in B&I. Our backs, however, are way off it.

Halaholo made a great debut at 12 both in attack and defence. Thank fuck, because Tompkins stinks to high heaven.

We have players coming back from injury who can make a difference. I'd bring North, Adams, Tomos and Navidi straight back in, keep Halaholo and start Sheedy.

Hogg is a fucking brilliant player

Farrell is due a red card😉

I have a few observations.

Its OK to be on the ground and potentially fuck someone's career but if you try and clear out a ruck whilst going in low its a straight red? What a load of bollocks.

Scotland were robbed, by far the better team. Wales have a very exceptional prospect on the wing.

They were by far the better team for 35 minutes of the first half and then ten of the second. How were they robbed?

And if you can't see that was a red given the current significance of long term effects from head injuries that has the potential to end the game as we know it, well, you need your head examined

By laws that are not fit for purpose

Nice.

... and I genuinely don't get how you think that, given the recently publicised stories of players whose lives have been utterly blighted by head injuries, reckless play such as fagerson's shouldn't receive maximum sanction, ill intent or no. I agree that taking out jackalling players or prone players in the ruck in areas of their body other than the head is unconscionable and should be dealt with harshly, but that doesn't mean that hits to the head should be given a bye.

You seem rather cross about the outcome.

Nah, I've had a drink and I'm mischief making. I do think the red altered what was turning out to be a cracking game. That being said I don't know what is going on at the moment at the breakdown. If rugby fans can watch both games today and think there isn't a problem with the laws (or interpretation of them) than there is a real problem.

On the floor out of the game = do as you please
Clearing out a ruck as you're told is your job = straight red

Of course. It was just the juxtaposition of the two games.

Don't start. It's my common complaint: 'why don't we as England have our own Anthem at internationals. not only do we have to use the GB one its also a shit dirge, Only the Italian one being worse in the six nations."

Although I would say Marseillaise. Flower of Scotland and Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, edge it over the Ireland one musically, but I recognise the political and historical weight of Ireland's.

Bring on Jerusalem

You tinker! ;)

Yeah, the breakdown is fucked, there were bodies flying in like exocets today (mostly in blue shirts in my cyclopian vision) with zero sanction, but that said, it has been for years now. Bring back fucking rucking!!!!

As in, Elbows O'Mahoney vs. Fagerson's?

I was thinking more about the two incidents in the two games today. That being said the O'Mahoney red card is one we can all unite behind. The refs should be given two red cards for incidents like that.

Any game against England at Croke Park would be rousing, because of the history but I think Ireland’s Call is a dirge but it is what it is and it serves a very important purpose.

we’ll lose today mostly because France are starting to look peerless but some of it is because of 1. players 2/3 of our starting front row are passed it (Healy), or an emergency measure (Herring). And 2. is coaching error. Last week putting sexton in at 12 when Henshaw went off was stupid. Could have put Lowe in there and brought on Larmour. Thirdly the mental aspect I shudder when I hear players say training is going really well. Which just smacks of desperation because of lack of confidence. We never heard that shite in 2018.

however if the pack goes well in the areas under POC like line out, maul, and breakdown we’ll see small tweaks with kelleher starting next time.
I think the back row is better balanced with Ruddock in but I think we’ll end the game with Bierne at 6. Ruddock maybe moving to 8. Our key player is JvdF and how well he handles Dupont.

Burns should get quicker ball from Park which may allow him to show what he’s made off.

At best we lose by less than 5 at worst 20 but I think it will by 10 to15. Which if we continue to have a shite third quarter wouldn’t be the worst result.

still looking forward to it.

I mean, I am now committed to running round my home town in my pants as a result of that win. To suggest that we didn't deserve to win when we scored 4 tries from open play, dominated the lineouts, defended brilliantly against everything but the dink overs (which halfpenny was responsible for - he's shot, bless him) and a soft try from a hogg run that Watkin should've anticipated, as well as bossing the breakdowns is a bit churlish, tbh. Fuck all jammy about that - Wales were well on the up before the card, which to my eyes didn't make a significant difference to the outcome.
Pence is worrying me. He needs to pack the game in to have any quality of life in the future. Sanjay to 15 in a fortnight, Josh back in (naughty, naughty boy) and Zamm to keep his place naturally. Then Piv can earn his crust deciding who to pick in midfield. J Williams I do like. Steady influence. North is proving there's a new trick or two in him. Halaholo a useful addition. Presuming JD2 still going to be out...

Agreed and these are some of the reasons for my comment about the win not being deserved.
LRZ is an amazing player. Doesn't make it a good team.
Plus - and I take your earlier point about 1/2p and the kicks - it still felt like Scotland we're getting the line breaks, but I'd need see some stats or watch it all again to confirm. Finally, but for the pass sliding off the chest of the guy in front and then him getting pinged for obstruction, Scotland should have scored another try.
So yeah, didn't feel Wales deserved the win, just because Zammo is incredible.
And yes, for the record, I used to feel the same when Wilkinson would simgle-handedly win games by kicking millions of points. I hate teams built around 1 persons genius.

So your argument is basically that because Scotland were actually reffed correct that Wales didn't deserve to win!

Unless you mean the disallowed try? No, I was saying Scotland were really unlucky that it didn't go into the arms of the guy in front.
i.e. Wales were one fractional moment away from losing

Unlucky? or broke the laws by obstructing the defence, without that action they not have scored anyway.

Potato potato ... hmm, that doesn't really work in text :D
Whatever, the question was "why did I think Wales didn't deserve to win". What about the rest of my post?

Yeah, Liam, Adams, North, Halaholo, Sheedy, Webb, LRZ should be the back line he starts against England. Whether it will be or not is hard to say.

The biggest downside of Wales win yesterday is that the WRU might be convinced that Bivouac is an international coach.
