Sir Mo Farah reveals he was trafficked to the UK as a child

Now they're talking about finding and punishing the traffickers. That is a change of pace. Wasn't five minutes ago the solution to trafficking was to simply find the victims and dump them all in Rwanda. Wonder what's changed.

It certainly is an astonishing story, and absolutely wild to think he's been living with this while being the public figure he is.

Is there any chance this was somewhere in his thinking when deciding to talk about it? I mean, as others have said, it shouldn't be, his life shouldn't have something like that placed on it, but it could well change how the discussion is framed.

Although, most likely, there'll be some "well yes, it's retroactively ok if you manage to sneak past and then go on to be one of the greatest athletes the country has ever seen; otherwise..." :(

I doubt he was thinking they could find his own particular traffickers, since it seems like he doesn't know who they were. It's not likely his Mum would have know much about them either.

Possibly someone was going to out him and that's why he came clean. But the odds are he just decided to stick his neck out for other people who've been in his position but not had the few advantages he did have as a child and definitely don't have the advantages he has now, as Sir Mo Farah. It's very unlikely he'll be deported (but not impossible), and there is a chance, even if it's a small one, that it might help other people not be deported.

Also he has kids, and he probably wants them to know the truth about his family.

But he was forced into servitude as a child. They might mean that.

Aye, sorry, that's more what I meant. Changing the public (and political) perception of people in this situation, and going after the traffickers rather than simply sodding off the victims, as SpookyFrank alluded to.
