Russian military plants/installations 'accidentally' catching fire

The Financial Times reported this morning that the US had urged Ukraine to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries.

In response to the report, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said “this is a matter for the United States. We would prefer that the United States call on the Kyiv regime to abandon its essence, and above all terrorist activity against civilian targets and residential homes,” Reuters reporte

Rumoured (and probably bollocks tbf) that this claim was made by someone with a stake in the oil industry, gaming the market.

I don’t think the US had a huge amount of leverage right now, what with the fifth columnists holding things up in congress.

It is rather Putinesque, I think, to refer to those with whom you disagree as being agents of a foreign power. Those members of the US Congress who do not wish to continue arming Ukraine are not "fifth columnists".

even of this isnt foul play, the stresses of ramping capacity to get them hard currencies coming in will invariably increase risks in petrochem plants. they do go boom now and then anyway as part of business as usual.
The Russian less than rigerous approach to health and safely add pressure of ramping up to war time production rates accidents happen, and even minor sabotage from disgrunteld workers is going to be a disaster. Ammo dumps need a lot of really boring and tedious handaling and record keeping and special treatment to avoid going boom! this is expensive time consuming and not at alll photogenic so gets neglected if your military has issues it also makes sabotage much easier.
