Rugby Union 2017-18

and playing well this season - really does suggest there is problems with the coaching team (and the coach has just resigned)

Well the new boy has 5 months before the team plays Scotland again.
I would like to see a proper match next time, not a one-sided rout!

Anyone watch the U20s world championship? Just catching up on ITV player. Watching the Kiwis utterly fold to the French was lovely. French scrummaging was glorious in the second half.

Trevor Brennan's son props for France given that the Irfu treated Trevor like something they stepped on it’s unlikely he’ll wear a green jersey, unfortunately.

Anyway Filipe Contemponi is Leinster new back's coach.

Well that's nice, but why aren't a few more of the ex Irish players getting into coaching?

News out that Peter Stringer is retiring.

Peter. Stringer. Retiring.

Next thing you know Gareth Edwards will be retiring.

Shows what not drinking can do for you. I’ve probably got a case against Guinness for ruining a promising career...

Im hearing from a mate-who knows someone senior in the RFU-Jones is on his way out. Im not sure what that will achieve and could be disastrous this close the RWC (assuming its true of course)

Oooh just bumped into Eddie Jones in a Starbucks in the middle of nowhere. Just on his way back from Bath where he was "looking at some players". Hmmm I wonder who?

O'Gara on the shortlist to step into Pivac's shoes at the Scarlets, apparently. Really not sure how I would feel about that:

What the Scarlets will do next and the men who could replace Pivac

In other news, it would appear that the WRU board has come to its senses and will approve a reboot of Welsh rugby, which will roll back all the toxicity and division of the Lewis years. This will see much greater collaboration between regions and WRU with regards to growing the professional game here, an enhanced funding package that will see the four regions pocket a share of an additional £2.4 million based on performance and the conveyor of talent into team wales (e.g. Turks will get the lion's share this year for obvious reasons) and much more streamlined governance of the professional game between regions and WRU. I've kept Gareth Davies as my avatar ever since he was appointed more in hope than in expectation but bloody hell it would seem that he's delivered. Hats off to the guy; maybe, just maybe, Welsh rugby is off life support and the war, as they say, is over.:)

Project Reset uncovered: confidential new Welsh rugby deal changes everything

Depressed, nauseated, or lost?

He seems to have done good with the Crusaders with many of the backs saying he's been great for them. He's definitely building a decent rep for himself, I'm sure he has an eye on the Munster job when it becomes available or even as expected JS leaves next year, Irish assistant coach to Andy Farrell's head coach. Either way he's not the worst option the Scarlets could have. Maybe Tandy will step up for them?

Yeah, he seems to be doing all the right things in the right sequence to become a top coach. I'd feel queasy about him becoming the Scarlets coach because a) he'd clearly be using it as a stepping stone to the Munster (and then Ireland?) jobs and b) I really don't like him very much.

Tandy can make the tea.

:(

I guess it was always going to happen but saw him soldiering onto the world cup after his break. A massive loss to the game on the field but a significant gain to the world of punditry, where no doubt his acuity will be warmly welcomed with big chequebooks.

As has already been said, one of the modern greats. So consistently excellent for so many years - lionhearted and an absolute beast of a player.

I was gutted to read this today, was looking forward to him making his comeback! A massive player for Wales these past ten years and as has been said one of the modern greats.

All the best in retirement Sam and I hope these injuries don't take anything away from a successful retirement.
