I do think there's an issue with fast moving politics threads like this though - they quickly become a mix of regurgitated reckons from lobby hacks, whatever has just been posted on the guardian politics live blog and baseless speculation from posters here, with occasionally some actual news - and unless we say when we're posting where the info has come from, then the other posters don't know which it is. So I think it's reasonable to ask people to give a source, rather than just posting 'apparently this.'

I read somewhere that he was 'furious' about Dominic Cummings' appointment - I understand there is little love shared between them, and Cummings thinks Smith is incompetent - I guess that could be the root of it?
