it's Ben Wallace (my MP) who I know almost nothing about. He is ex-forces though fwiw.

Cheers. He's apparently reasonably competent - he was security minister at the home office for some time and TM expanded his perview, so at least not Grayling 2.0.

We'll see how he pans out - defence needs someone with a grip of tedious detail and day to day management, but also a thinker.
