Opposition to Islam is not Racism.

I'm Anti Catholic ..thats OK apparently because I went to a Catholic School ,I have a Catholic Set of First names.

I'm Anti Baptist ..Is that OK =after all I'm not one and never have had much connection with them but they seem an intolerant bunch with their avsurd literal belief in the Bible - thats OK too it seems.

I'm Anti Islam -for all the reasons that I'm anti catholic and Anti Baptist but apparently That's NOT OK .Even though I am Anti Islam because first and foremost it oppresses its own adherants I can be set upon by people who claim that my "islamaphobia' is all about "racism" apperently because most muslims are 'brown' and I am not.

Most Anglicans are Black but I can be Anti CofE without being racist too .Anyone care to explain why ?

It's because pro religionists are by definition illogical people.

And anti racists geet tied up in knots very easily.

Or maybe you is a nazi :D

I preferred Money, but overall I think he's shit. Not a patch on his old man.

Alkie - why not just call yourself a theophobe if someone challenges you about being racist cos you don't like Islam...

Theophobe implies that I fear or Hate God -which I don't because I don't believe in any such entity.I'm also not bothered about pointless religious rituals that aren't actually oppressing anyone. Thailand's buddhism for instance .

TyranaCredophobia perhaps - the fear of Tyrannical belief.

Yeah, but

a. Most people aren't going to know the difference
b. theophobe is quicker, easier and you sound like less of a pretentious cock saying it.

obviously not but 'anti racists' seem to think otherwise.

There seems to be a big gap between 'anti racists' and people who just aren't racist.

And there always seems to be a big gap between those spending a disproportionate time of criticizing Islam as a monolithic religious entity and those who just don't care for religious influence. Funny that.

I notice you are a new poster and have a slightly Islamic sounding name. :hmm: All the same I shall respond as if you are not trying to troll.

1. People don't know what racism means. It seems to have become a blanket term for all types of bigotry, rather than seen as just a subset of it.
2. The majority of people in this country are white and brought up in catholic or protestant churches. So most muslims also happen to be 'brown' and people are often racist against them.
3. It's not always easy to separate out which part of someone's biased treatment of another person comes from not liking the religion, and which part from not liking 'foreign' or 'brown' or 'immigrant' or 'differently cultured' people.
4. Some people use criticism of the religion as a stick to hit the race with.
5. Media and other people who communicate with the masses tend to oversimplify things out of laziness or sensationalism or realisation that most people are not willing to read a well-thought out reasoned opinion.
6. There seems to be some sort of polarisation between racist and left wing woolly liberal with reasoned response getting lost in the middle.
7. Politicians and other public servants or organisations, who have to find solutions to friction between communities and much of the general public, are concerned about racism and tend to overcompensate by attempting to suppress reasoned debate, or value judgements if the group it criticises also happens to be from a different culture/colour/race. Probably because this can be twisted by the likes of the BNP for their own purposes.

That's my thoughts on the matter, for the moment.

And I agree anti-racists doooo get tied up in knots very easily. There is a lot of woollly, illogical thinking from people trying not to be racist.
