The 600,000-dollar kitchen or why the UN is still relevant to the US
Officials said Wednesday the State Department has approved the expenditure at the request of the envoy, John Negroponte, who had asked for the funds to remodel and expand the kitchen at the apartment in New York's famed Waldorf-Astoria hotel.

JD - this was the article

[Officials said Wednesday the State Department has approved the expenditure at the request of the envoy, John Negroponte, who had asked for the funds to remodel and expand the kitchen at the apartment in New York's famed Waldorf-Astoria hotel.
"Yeah, it's a lot of money, but it's a lot of work and it's worth it," said one department official, who like the others, spoke on condition of anonymity.
"We're in this for the long haul," the official said of continued US participation in the United Nations in the face of its failure to meet President George W. Bush challenge to disarm Iraq or lose relevance and go the way of the now-defunct League of Nations.
Negroponte, who succeeds such renowned US diplomats as Henry Cabot Lodge, Adlai Stevenson, Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Madeleine Albright in the UN post as well as the Waldorf residence, had complained that the 10- by 17-foot (three- by five-meter) kitchen was simply too small to accommodate the needs of guests at the multitude of functions he hosts, the officials said. ]

Your attack on Iraq, yes!!!

Damage done to the region and globally, Pb, it hasn't even started yet.

By your "shoot first, ask questions later" approach to this region has unleashed problems that most of us would not wish to deal with.

Go home to America, land of the "brave", and let the rest of the world attempt to deal with the reality you have now left us!!!

Be proud...you beat up a country in a "David and Goliath" attack...and you won!!!

Bush will be re-elected....that is all that matters, right?!?

Yes the reality is that 25 million people are now free and no longer have to fear being taken in the dead of the night by jack-booted thugs.

If we left it up to the UN htey would never be free.

And if the iraqi people are glad we freed them, you have no right to say it is wrong.

Its their lives.

And we should find out what they think pretty soon.

oh yes, they are free...but free to do what!?!

Organizatiation after organization told you that their hospitals could not handle the number of causities that you are inflicting.

You were told that the infra-structures could not handle the damage that you have inflicted.

Hey, guess what...they were right...you have inflicted damage on these "innocent" people you are "liberating".

Hello...as bad as life was...at least I had my child...not anymore.

Thank you, United States, you bring us water and food (kinda had that before), but now I need you to give us these estntials of life....so thank you for the handouts. But can you stop my only surviving child to sleep through the night?!?

Aren't you so proud, you beat up a country without defenses and are now going to tell them how to live.

The American War of Independence was your way to determine how you think you should govern themselves.

Why are you denying these people the same right??? Did they ask you to invervine??? Did they ever ask you to attack their country???

No...this is an example of your arrogance...we know what is good for you...just submit.

I re-itterate....you have proven that you can bomb a third world country.

Oh...we are so proud of you!!!

Now get the f out and let the rest of the world attempt to clean up after you.

Well its all perspective.

You say we beat up a third world nation.

I say we beat up their evil dictators and tried real hard not to hurt inocent people.

And as a point of clarification, killing saddam is a good thing.

And i good reason to cheer.

It will prevent a lot more unnecissary death.

And resistance to the borg is futile.

Surly your've see the movie.
