Glastonbury 2019

In 2007 the last I saw of the mud was on the Bakerloo line platform at Paddington. It really had gone that far.

We were head to toes slathered. That year was the end for a lot of people. At the time I was veering that way. 2008 turned into a vintage year. Perhaps it was a clear out, those who were tired weren’t there.

In came a zillion twenty somethings first timers. The site was alight... I can remember Wednesday and Thursday was background singalong of “Stay Another Day”

A venue in Silver Hayes had done a late booking, in response to a cheeky whinge by the ‘band’.

About an hour before I was sat with some urbs at the cider bus, in a collective slating. Not long later, someone looked at their watch, looked at the assembled gang, and said “on in 20 minutes, if we leave now we can make it!”

Never seen so many rebels move so quick :)

Or was this 2009??

The edges blur :)
2009. I remember that meet and the dash to the dance field. We couldn’t get in and gave up. I was going to buy a baked potato for Brian. [emoji1]

Hints at some not-too-badness from next w/e onwards in some forecasts ..... :hmm: </buttons lip :p >
Longer range models currently suggest the ground could be a bit wet from rain earlier in the week (various models point to an unfavourable omega block of sorts over most of the next 7+ days bar this Fri/Sat/early Sun - there's potential for a lot of rain late this coming Sunday into Monday) but only light rain showers appear on the cards for the Thurs/Fri/Sat of the festival itself. However, at present they lean towards the festival Sunday seeing a lot of rain.

As usual for so many days ahead - YMMV, pinch of salt, etc.

Getting ever closer , Wiltshire now via Essex , Kent , Surrey , Berkshire and Oxfordshire .

Can almost taste the Cider !

the only time I drink cider, is funny enough, at Glastonbury, hot n spicy cider from the cider bus if it still exists...

Can anyone clarify the worrying rumours that EPO bands will be digitally tracked this year?

As in, when someone goes out with an EPO they are bleeped out and then in again, therefore making the ever so slightly underhand pass back tactic now impossible?

I stumbled (blagged) into a bar last year, that I think was a staff bar (it was post 6am), and had a sign up behind the bar saying "chill out, this is the only 24 hour bar on site".

What was it?!

It must have been in the SE corner. I think the DJ was playing from a Underground carriage? I think there was an underground carriage involved:oops:? I think it backed onto the railway road, and maybe round the back of Shangri-la??

Either way it was bloody ace, and I'd love to be able to go there again. Not least of all because it ensures a late drink. Is there anything one can do to acquire a pair or wristbands for it :hmm:

I had one of those rather magic couple of hours when it felt like the DJ was playing for me. It was really a bit (personally) special.

Maceos? Up in SE Corner.

That’s what I’m hearing.

What killed it was some guy getting hundreds (maybe thousands) of fakes made in China as soon as the design was known, then apparently making a tens of thousands of pounds flagging them. (They all had the same number, and were eventually clocked and refused.)

It only takes one person to excessively take the piss one year, to ruin it for those who took the piss discretely.

Still there. So is the hot and spicey cider, if ;) ;) the nights are chilly next week ;)

We'll be back at our usual Info Point, called "Green Info" -- but this, ours, is not to be confused with Green Fields Information. The latter is actually in the Green Futures Field on the main drag up towards the Stone Circle. Our Info Point is just below the crossroads between this main uphill drag and the Old Railway Line.
Opposite Manic Organic (which I doubt will have moved ;) ) and next to the Shepherds Ice Cream stall (whose staff are very nice :) ).

Anyway, our shifts -- with one possible exception, festivaldeb and i will be working together on the same shifts :

Wednesday 26th June : Noon to 4 pm :)
Thursday 27th June : Noon to 4 pm :)
Friday 28th June : 8 am to Noon :)
Saturday 29th June : Noon to 4 pm :)
Sunday 30th June : 8 pm to Midnight :hmm:

I'm going to try to swap the late Sunday shift with an earlier one that day -- I really want to see The Cure!

ETA : NB : Dates now corrected!!

OK, we and van are all 95% packed up and ready to leave Wales early tomorrow! :) :)
Please do wander past and visit us when we're on shifts ... just come and have a chat :)

Or more generally, if anyone knows my number, text me ... we can meet for CIDER! at most times :) :D

Posting this now, because most likely, I'll have no access to proper internet after about 9 am tomorrow, Friday 21st ... have a great time everybody! :D :p

So, mudbath or not? :hmm:
Various latest forecasts show anything is possible. Both heat and thunderstorms seem both to be increasing trends at the moment ....

Actual rumours from reputable sources ;) now suggest a possibility of some serious weather over several days next week
( 2hats ? )

Midweek 25/26/27th looking warm (25-28 degC) maybe also 28th. Rain showing on 25th on main models, then dry with rain risk rising again at the weekend.

On this day 2 years ago, we were standing around in 34-degree heat queuing to get in.

The BBC forecast is looking better than it was. Thunderstorms were predicted for most of Tuesday, now looking like a mere light shower instead and dry for the trek in on Wednesday.

Whoever done that is a fucking knobhead! That could well have scuppered my chances of getting in.

If anyone knows any other ways, i would be eternally grateful for a little PM ;)

The karmic winds that influence such things have meant that I didn't get tickets initially....but now have managed to get hold of two for my wife and I. Only downside is that because we weren't expecting to be going, we didn't try to get campervan tickets and they've all sold out. I guess there will be a few in the April resale? Are there other ways to get them? Is it easier to buy and sell them than the full tickets? Thanks!
are you going then mate ? if so pm your number, would be good to catch up :)

GFS now toying with much more rain for the festival weekend after 3, maybe 4 warm days (though there will always be a thunderstorm risk on those warm days as CAPE and LI are strongly elevated).

I'm sorry this will affect you directly, hope you can sort something.

Meanwhile I'm writing a memo to self to do a data access request afterwards and get a souvenir list of every time I go out and in

08 was the first year Emily Eavis ran it, and unfortunately copped the flack for achieving the unfathomable and nearly not selling out Glasto (until the last day or something? Again, a quite bonkers state of affairs considering the typical level of demand!) - not helped by Jay Z booked to headline (when in reality it was the product of the previous 2 editions (06 was a fellow year) being the worst in most peoples living memory)...

09 was Jacko death year and East 17.;)

This was it (well the back of it). Took a photo (I hate em normally!) for exactly this purpose. Was this Maceos?? I had maceos as entered to the right of NYC Downlow, whereas this felt like somewhere else??
