Glastonbury 2014

Yeah but some shifts are 4hrs, some are 12. Some get fed, some don't. Some sit in the arse end of nowhere, others are in the action.

Something to think about for sure when applying for work.
I think that was my original point, though I've lost track of how this convo started now.

tbh, it's something that Glastonbury really ought to sort out (assuming they haven't, it has been nearly a decade), there should be some minimum standards for volunteers across the site - free food, hot drinks while working being the minimum that I've ever accepted anywhere on any site for any volunteers working for me, or for myself.

Yes but why  I've never really understood the people who pore over clash finders either.... Chances are you won't see a tenth of what you planned and you are bound to miss stuff along the way....
Given that I now earn a living from knowing what is happening in every single part of the region we cover simultaneously, I have no desire to force myself to do the same on my holidays :D

I generally watch the acts at new year when they show a few hours of Glastonbury on telly after Jools Holland's Hootenany. Makes for odd conversations when I get back though.

"Who did you see?"
"Umm, no-one"

i actually do agree about the sheer pointlessness of overdoing any planning, but it's still worth having a broad idea at least -- bound to be at least some 'must not misses' for most people.

My 18 year old nephew has just arrived from Australia for an extended holiday and I wondered if anyone knew of people who were still looking for workers at Glastonbury (or any other festivals). He's loads of catering experience. Any advice/contacts would be amazing, I'm somewhat(!) out of the festivals loop these days

Glastonbury is the one festival where I do spend ages beforehand filtering the wheat from the chaff of what I wouldn't mind seeing, purely so that I can plan a rough route around the festival each day and see as much of it as possible without constantly pinging from one side to the other. Admittedly the vague plans I end up forming do often go completely out the window and tbh looking at the embryonic clashfinder I'm going to be spending the vast majority of my daytimes this year either in West Holts or The Park anyway. There's more stuff I'd like to see on the Pyramid this year than there has been for a while but it'll often be a case of can I be arsed to shlep all the way down there just to look at the big screens and a bunch of twats waving flags. The answer will inevitably be "No". :)

check out the boomtown thread they still need people. suspect he's missed the boat for glasto.

Oxfam will only take him if he's got a proper working visa etc but if he has they still have space at festivals

Thanks Wiskey, he does have a two year student working visa so should be fine. Thanks so much for the suggestions, I'll pass it on...

Thinking my chances of coming are narrowing by the day. Had scans on my knees a few weeks ago and the results are back so I need to see the doctor asap. Even if there's nothing immediately apparent that needs attention I walked for about 15 minutes last night and one leg was really painful so can't see me managing 6 days on my feet.

Proper gutted :(

Might be best to think about all tomorrows festivals (and other things), rather than risk it all on this one iyswim? Tough break though :(.

Fingers crossed. Feel tight on my lad as I'm going with him and we had such a great time last year. Hopefully if I have to drop out his girlfriend can get time off work to take my spot.

I've never had a can't-live-with-it clash at Glastonbury, but Friday is the closest I've come. There are ten bands I'd really like to see on that day (with horrendous Sophie's-choice-like clashes!). Not going to name them cos some are a bit  (lol). That's more bands than I usually have lined up for the whole festy . Oh well.

:mad::mad::mad:
:(:(
My festival is in a bit of doubt! Someone has offered me some real life work (with proper money and that) in the run up to the festival, which would scupper my festival place (I won't be letting anyone down either way - my involvement this year is rather.. ahem.. complicated :hmm:).
I can't afford to turn down the work - so we will have to see...

I read about that in today's Metro.

I'm only surprised i haven't heard more from groups complaining about Hetfield; he's been at this for years. The guy is a redneck through and through. He loves the NRA and has been into hunting for a long time. He's a second generation Ted Nugent ffs. The only decent one in that band seems Kirk (don't know much about Robert), who seems a cool guy. Lars is right up his own arse.

What sort of farming does Michael Eavis do? Cows don't exactly have a cushy deal these days so why haven't they complained before - in the interest of balance.

Won't make fuck all difference; they are hardly going to can their headline act a couple weeks before!

Feeling a bit :( about it at the moment (not the fucking bearhunting, read above  ).
My get-in this year was a bit tenuous as I wasn't able to do the work I usually do, so it was all kind of down to whether they wanted to invite me along anyway in a less-suited role.
I'd kinda resigned myself that I might not be going, but then they invited me and I was all :D:).
Allowed myself to get a bit overexcited over the past few days - now I might not get to go after all.
