Glastonbury 2008

Mud Mud Mud.....:p

It's almost like you want it to be another washout  :hmm:.

Well there's the best chance this year for a while that there won't be ... around 'average' rainfall for June this year forecast (Met Office long term/seasonal forecast, can't find link right now). Last yeat's June saw 191% of the monthly average overall in the UK, this year I've seen (not Met Office) only 104% of the June average forecast this time, and given that the average for June is actually pretty low normally, 104% would mean 104% of not too much at all ... so this year there's a better than evens chance of dryness at last, I'd say ...

Add in the 'we're badly owed a scorcher' factor and .....

Yes, but we had to pick up a ticket at the showground last year and again we were on site before those who stayed in the line at the station. Without the added annoyance of getting busted.

Do you mean there are shuttle buses from CC to Bath & West? And how was ticket collection (day/time, wait in queue?)

...Curious, trying to help out an international visitor on another forum.

Very likely stewarding so not in the game this year.

Good on yer. I think I'm working too, but technically I don't know for sure, so - if only to make up the 'ticket team' numbers - I'll be up first thing on Sunday. Weirdly, it's kind of become part of the whole thing. Ritual perhaps.:)

Ooooooooooh!

is it 'T day' on Sunday?

I share your pain in a vicarious virtual sort of way :D

actually of course I will be damn jealous but am relieved not to be going thru all that this year.

And of course it will be a scorcher. Probably hotter than 1995 :)

Saving myself wading through pages (sorry) I spoke to an Oxfam supervisor about the suggestions on here that Oxfam camping was potentially being moved off site. He said he'd heard of no such plans and if Tom's field was taken away from Oxfam and replaced with something off-site a vast number of the volunteers would stop volunteering. I think "off-site" camping for workers applies to those who are contracted by GFL to provide a service for cash, not those who provide a service using mostly volunteers as a means of paying for their tickets.

Could be wrong, don't quote me as anything other than repeating what Oxfam supervisor said to me. :)

Yes. ALthough last year, they went from CC to festival and those who needed to pick up int'l tix stayed on to be taken back to Bath and West. Then got another one back to fest site after collection. Long queues! It seems from posts here and elsewhere that waiting time is variable but expect at least an hour and be happy if it's less than two :)

Cheers Blues... an 'international' was asking about best travel options from London. Someone suggested that they get the coach combo ticket to avoid the B&W pickup hassle. Sounds like it could be good advice from what you are saying.

You can cope .... :)

Good luck with your Sunday ticket traumas everyone -- will check in on Sunday evening to see how people have got on.

I've been curious about this for years.... Every other site I'm familiar with has everyone helping everyone else on that site get tickets. I know this happens in some cases, but it seems much less here. For instance, I don't even need tickets but because my daughter does, I'm doing the whole thing as usual and since I've got to go there anyway, am also linked up to folk on two (admittedly Glasto specific) forums to help anyone else who can't get through themselves.

This is absolutely not a criticism, those other sites are far smaller than Urban so there's no real "worry" about handing over card and reg details to "strangers on the net" etc, but it's not in me to just get daughter's tix sorted out then sod off down the pub or whatever leaving forum folk still trying. This year might be the year I can't get through so someone on one of those forums puts my daughter's order in, who knows, but that really doesn't seem to happen here ... is it simply because U75 is so big you don't know one another well enough?

a lot of them are in denial about losing 'their' field.

Also it hasnt been released officially so most of them dont know.

In my experience we're just not as overt about it - I've certainly got help off people from here for a couple of years (thanks) without which we wouldn't have got tickets, but they were my friends :) and this board isn't set up around festivals, its just one aspect of where we see each other

on here there are more important things than a wet weekend in june it just doesnt make headline news

:)

First person to manage to get to the bit where you actully book tickets will be giving a direct link again this year right???

That has always beena danm useful service and the best chance of getting a ticket.

Had forgotten tickets go on sale tommroow.

Depends how flexible your international people are. Coach tix for specific coaches/pick up points will only allow so many tickets to be booked, then they'll have to pick another option as the morning goes on. If they haven't already booked flights, probably best to just see what's available in the morning and organise travel around that. I've just advised an international group NOT to do the coach combo option as they're very restricted on return travel and when folk have flights to catch, something going wrong on the only coach available to them would be a nightmare.

I got ticket for 6 urbanites last year, as well as my own, and more than that the time before. There's a lot of it goes on, but there's not so much of a song and dance of it here :p

Been such a long while since I had anything but cold and wet at Glastonbury, I now pretty much have Glastonbury as my defacto worst cold and wet moment.

No need for tongues missus ;)

I wouldn't say song and dance so much as it's people openly posting "I've a form open, who needs it" that's public. Dont' think I've ever seen that here. (To be fair I'm usually elsewhere * several at the time)

Morning!

What a day to have my ISP go down for the first time ever  I've had to trek through the snow to my office for internet access. Virgin Media might have lost a customer though this.

Good luck everyone :)

Our Virgin IP went down yesterday so we've had to come to madamvs to get our tickets. They will be losing us as well as I also have an essay to submit online (not that I've written it yet). :(

We have got tickets thanks to Urban 2005 and 2007. 05 it was a direct link to the purchase page and 07 a phone number for See that wasn't advertised. I'm hoping Urban will come good again this year but there aren't as many trying so I will log into E Festivals as well to see what's happening there.
