Glastonbury 2008

FFS what the fuck is Greenway on about, people registering because of the novelty of having to register

There were actually stories last year of schoolkids registering themselves because it was some sort of badge of honour! But I do confess to having a chuckle over the fact that he swears blind that he never reads the (ex) official message boards and yet there he is using them as a source of information even though they are so dreadfully inferior to his own. :hmm:

lets keep this about glasto and not Neil eh guys :)

*tries to stop any discussion before it starts :D*

A three hour wait for ticket collection. :(

blimey, that's bad. In 2005 a friend of mine had to pick up an international ticket so we got a cab from the station to the pick up point, queued for the ticket for about an hour, went to the offie, and got a cab to the festival and were still on site before the friends of ours who had waited for the shuttle bus. I wonder what went wrong for you blues.

Presumably that was back in the day when the pick up point was in Shepton Mallet rather than in the middle of nowhere at the Bath & West Showground.

A couple of questions:

(a) is hash fudge something that sniffer dogs pick up? I'm guessing it is
(b) even if they don't, what's the likely reaction of security or police if they find you with loads of fudge?

There should be a mechanism for face value ticket transfer at any time.
Yeah that pissed me off no end when I didn't go in 2005

(although I tried to get money back by saying I was a huge kylie fan and didn't want to go because she had cancelled :D )

Ive only ever heard of sniffer dogs at the train station. But wrap it in an airtight container and wash the outside of it once it is sealed. Wash your hands and make sure your cloths have been washed since the last time you smoked. Throw the fudge in with some buscuits and crisp packets and there is no reason to think it is not just another snack.

I was quite nervous before the w/e, but Deb and I have just received our application forms for our jobs. We will fill in this coming weekend and send em off with a (returnable) 2 ticket-sized deposit. Deadline not til 25 April so if we get them sent this w/e we have plenty of time. We're optimistic :)

Got a spare if you need one :D

"Ticket transfer at any time" (i.e. after the May 9th cancellation deadline) would be impossible to implement in a way where everyone got what they expected, with the system as it stands - i.e. destroy originals & reprint with new photos.

Basically you need a system that matches buyers and sellers, and is capable of simoultaneously transacting for both parties - if you want to prevent buyer or seller taking a risk (assume that the organisers will never do a ticket buy-back and take the risk themselves.)

This is not possible with the current ticket arrangement. It could be possible if tickets could be cancelled electronically, but even then I couldn't see it ever happening. Alternatively GFL abandons the ticket-person link (e.g. photo) and you sell them on ebay. Again, that's not going to happen. If anything, expect other festivals to follow GFL's lead, rather than GFL revert to the current status quo.

It's a pain I know, but essentially it's GFL's anti-touting measures that are the root of this. As a balance of evils/inconveniences, I'd say stuff the touts every time.

I thought about this a bit more, dunno why not going to happen. To pay for it people pay a service charge of say 5 quid. With a cut of date of a week before the festival.

People apply for a (to quote Indian trains speak) Reservation against Cancellation (RAC) once the tickets sell out and they all go in a queue for which you pay the full ticket price. THe queue is limited to how ever many they generally know will cancel. You send the ticket to GFL and when they get it they cancel your ticket, refund and the 1st person in the queue gets an email and a text. Once the cut off point is reached, the printer, having been pre-booked for the work, prints the new tickets and punters then get to collect them at the gate.

Its would rely on computer systems to manage the work but its hardly a complex thing to implement. If done properly all someone would have to do when they got a ticket is enter it onto the computer and tear it up. The computer would do the rest.

Anyone left in the queue gets an apology and their money back.

What you are suggesting isn't stupid, but there are pitfalls. You have to physically forfeit your ticket with no guarantee of sale. A forecast of bad weather, combined with a lower demand (i.e. this year) could mean that only a minority of forfieted tickets got sold. It would need to be heavily labelled as a 'last chance' scheme - otherwise you can imagine the complaints.

Electronic 'voiding' is really the answer IMHO. I think there is another festival that is scanning on entry?? Don't think they have a ticket swap, but having put the readers and network kit in at the gates, they are arguably half way there.

Oh yes, of course, no sale no transfer. Got to be better than whats there.

The Lovebox scan on entry, esp this year you can print you own ticket for 2.95, the same price as having it sent? Print as many as you like, only 1st one gets entry.

They charge you for printing your own? :D

But yep, scan on entry is the way forward. Lots of benefits for ticket buyer and organiser alike.

Yes they do, I couldn't fathom how they could get away with that. I still chose it as then I know I don't have to worry about the postman stealing it.

I wasn't that bothered about going this year but then found out yesterday that I've managed to get a blag in so I'm actually now quite excited :) Having not registered for tickets I know I would have been gutted come the day

Sunday 6th April : T-Day!!

You can cope .... :)

Good luck with your Sunday ticket traumas everyone -- will check in on Sunday evening to see how people have got on.

I reckon it'll be a slightly chilled affair this time round with everyone who wants one getting a ticket without a problem.

Yes, but we had to pick up a ticket at the showground last year and again we were on site before those who stayed in the line at the station. Without the added annoyance of getting busted.
