Well, I just registered and got number 1105914.

What number did it start from?

Giles..

Just take off the first "1" so you are effectively no. 105,914 but that's only online registrations. Postal ones are on a different numbering system.

On what what grounds of suspicion do you think the OB could squester the 1mn+ records that are online? It'd be interesting to get D-Bs POV on this...

On what basis of trust do you believe such a request would be denied?

You're answering a question with a question. The OB would need a reason to get an S&S warrant to seize that data.

The second point is what would they do with it? What posisble value does it have?

Do you really believe there is any real protection of anything or anyone in new world order uber-grand bretagne?
Sorry for the questions, but you ain't making me feel any happier by your implicit belief that this whole security scam is for our own good.
I just don't believe that. Convince me, if you can.

I have a wee problem insofar as I'm in New Zealand until next month. This reggie thing is a pain in the arse.....

I'm not sure if there are any special problems with registering from abroad (I agree it's a real pain mate) but any reason why you can't register online?

If you don't make Glasto, it would be good to meet you at some other festie this summer :)

(for eg : Solfest, August Bank Holiday weekend, is near Scotland and is excellent! )

Look out for my 'Festival Season 2007 -- some dates and details' thread -- overdue  , but fairly imminent ...

Registering months in advance – with a photograph – for the *chance* to buy tickets to a music festival?

Nah, I don’t think so – there’s too many other festivals out there to bother jumping through that many hoops!

I painfully and really understand that reaction, several friends and festie contacts are saying similar ...

I've bothered, and have made the effiort, cos I'm committed, come what may and despite the annoying changes.

But sadly, many sound people., including former fellow Glasto diehards, won't :( :(

I'm gonna make the effort, but not sure if I would again after this year. Way too much fucking about

Must remember to get the bloody form from Milletts on Saturday

I registered yesterday (not that I need to just wanted to see how much "hassle" it really was). Took my own photo, uploaded it & filled in the brief details required. 5 minutes max. A lot less "hassle" than having to look after your passport while you're completely monged for 6 days!

Quite honestly I couldn't give a toss really - the stated reasons given are to prevent people re-selling the tickets at inflated prices, and the systems bought in to ensure crowd control over the last two festivals have supposedly been successful in both preventing non-ticket holders from getting into the site, and probably more importantly from both Eavis and punters PIV, the level of on-site crimes against people has fallen to negligible levels.

And that's it - as I said, the more people who take your approach the more chance I have of getting a ticket, I just find the idea that the OB want to seize a db of largely M/C people and families, with information that gives the most basic information (where on EARTH did you get the idea that bank details are recorded? As soon as you make the credit card transaction the only place that keeps the details is your bank, and the OB need a serious reason to access that)...all this information is available elsewhere (the passport office for one) so the question is WHY?

Also, as a private organisation Glastonbury Festivals are bound by the DPA so they can't hold the data once it's been used...

Gotta love this 'what an effort' it is...especially seeing those sentiments expressed on an internet message board...

Do you have access to a digital camera? You can register online so your location really has nothing to do with it...

I'm going to register, just need to sort out photos.

My big problem is I'm going to be in Egypt when the tickets go on sale.
Is the ticket sale going to be phone only or will there be online sales too?

I'm 1110971, I bet loads of people won't realise they have to register this year.

As for the photos, It's to stop people touting tickets, what else could they have done?

A majority of tickets are sold online these days so that's your best bet. I think there might be a bit of an issue if you can't because the overseas phone line is only acceptable for people who register at an overseas address & the UK number might not be accessible from overseas phones so if you can't get online on 1st April make sure somebody in this country has your registration no., post code & debit card details so they can do it for you.

Why can't they just pull down the fence and let everybody come? We all know the risks - they could put a fence around Pilton instead to keep the OAPs safe, it would be much cheaper.

Said it once, now again, Health and Safety facists.

Because the site can only cope with so many people and the council would love to shut it down plus you'd get any amount of chancers robbing tents and the like. Do you seriously think you can have a free for all in this day and age?.

Thanks, I believe the place we're staying has decent internet access so I should be okay.

I was out of the country for the festival in 2005, so thought I'd better check that they still do online purchases. Glad to hear that they do, and I hope it works better than the online system did in 2004 where everyone ended up staying up half the night trying to buy tickets because the servers couldn't handle the demand.

I assume that you're relatively 'down' with environmental issues?

One of the main reasons the council nearly refused the license two years ago was because of the number of people pissing in the river was causing massive amounts of local pollution and serious damage to the local environment (which is why in 05 they had the Piss Police going round in good natured mood, but with the message get caught pissing against a hedge again and you're off site).

So it's not just about 'knowing the risks' - it's about the fact that those who go clearly can't or won't respect the land that it happens on.

It worked a lot better in 2005. 112,500 tickets sold in almost exactly 3 hours.

Excellent idea! Free festival. No money. No entertainment. No food. No toilets. Just lots of people getting fucked up & robbing off one another.

No ta.

It should work even better this year, since they have allowed up to 4 tickets purchased per person.

This will reduce the number of transactions, since a lot of people go in big groups, so will buy 4 in one go, instead of twice as many people buying 2 each.

Giles..

Well, they could have just left it like 2005. You had to bring photo-ID and your name was on your ticket. The touting problem had already been largely solved. I mean, who would have wanted to risk paying over the odds for a ticket, when there was a pretty significant chance that you would not get in?

I think the arrangement this year is overkill, TBH. There simply WAS NOT a big touting problem in 2005.

Unlike in 2004 when they had that half-arsed "bring a gas bill" ID requirement. Who would have ever foreseen that touts would simply offer a gas bill with the tickets being sold, eh? Sherlock fucking Holmes, maybe!

Giles..

But nevertheless a sufficient number did fall into the hands of touts to go one step further. The big advantage of this system however is the fact that you don't have to carry any ID at all other than the ticket & your face. No more passports / Driving Licenses / Citizen Cards to lose.

I can't be arsed anymore.

It's a shame and makes me feel a bit sad :(

But, fuck 'em

Sorry you feel that way mate. Who knows, we could have actually got to meet after all these years. :(
