F1 2019

F1 always some controversy and not involving Bernie this time ;)

I think Vettel could have faced a couple of rule breaches in that incident, so I'm not sure we can judge it without knowing what rule the stewards penalized him under. That will be published at some point so we will see a fuller picture. I have a feeling that rather than being penalized for unsafe return to the track, it could be going off track and gaining an advantage, which also includes retaining an advantage.

I still think it was harsh and if Vettel had turned left as he came off the grass I think he would have spun and collected Lewis with his rear end.

Excellent points.

I was thinking this but didn't have the words to explain it.

Maybe if he had let Lewis past he would have had a better chance than the 5 sec penalty. Hard call to make in racing conditions mind.
Letting Hammy past might have worked if the offence was gaining an unfair advantage, as 1%er says. But if the problem was unsafe re-join, it's always going to be debatable.

It was a shoddy way to decide a GP, really.
