F1 2016

I thought I understood the detail as laid out earlier in that post, but I don't understand what this line means! Cheers.
If they have just crossed the start/finish line they can continue on a flying lap and they would then need to do a slow down lap so they could be on track between 4 and 6 minutes longer than the session at some tracks, they would then still get the full time between the end of one qualifying session and the next one starts.
For example:
At the end of Q1 all remaining drivers may complete a flying lap if they have crossed the line in time (they would then need another lap to return to the pits).

Aston Martin re-enter Formula 1
As mentioned in the 2015 F1 thread, Aston Martin are going to link up with Red Bull, Aston Martin will not provide the engines for the F1 cars, but will work on its design and production technology alongside Red Bull as part of an innovation partnership. As part of the deal Adrian Newey will work with the car company to design a new road car. Aston Martin’s only previous involvement in F1 came between 1959 and 1960 when, after huge success in sportscars, they attempted to transition to Grand Prix racing. However, their first two cars proved uncompetitive and after just five world championship starts they decided to concentrate their efforts on sportscar racing once more.

Free practice rain effected
Lewis Hamilton was quickest in another rain-hit practice session ahead of the Australian Grand Prix while his team mate hit the wall. Unlike in first practice, the second session never dried sufficiently for dry-weather tyres to be used. The session began on a very wet track and Hamilton waited until the conditions had improved considerably before hitting the top with his first flying lap time. Nico Rosberg took to the track much sooner but was caught out by the tricky conditions. The Mercedes got away from him at turn seven and hit the barrier, breaking its front wing. Kimi Raikkonen, Daniel Ricciardo and Carlos Sainz Jnr completed the top five.

Interesting that drivers can be knocked out while in the garage :)
I hadn't thought about that

Its hard to follow, need to keep and eye on the times, who is in the pitts and how fast the bottom 6 drivers are on track :hmm:

Sky need some new on-screen graphics to help with times, pitts etc. so not just the teams that need to learn :)

Yup, I was a bit confused.

On Sky they're talking about not having an on-screen countdown for the eliminations.

That would make it easier to figure out who's about to get the chop and see where they are, and if they have a chance of staying in.

Brundle:

"Too much attention on the clock and not enough on great laps.

Why can't they finish the lap they're on and have it count?"

On a long track it is a real one lap shot-out, any mistakes and your under pressure.

The Mercs are quick :)

Did McLaren get caught out or did their quali 1 times flatter to deceive?

All we see are the gaps.

I think the Q2 times got a second faster.

So the McLarens were pretty fast, but had nothing more, while the other cars turned up the wick.

I didn't understand the tyre reference either.
Strange, as he will have to start on his Q2 tyres so unless he is planing a 4 stop race he will still have a new set left over at the end of the race.

I guess he must have used up all his supersoft is what he meant and didn't think he'd get the time on the other tyres

The top 4 don't need to go out really but Nico needs to go and get a better time for the grid

if you follow what I mean there, Ferrari will be happy with 3 and 4 place

And Hammy gets 3 tenths on Rosberg.

So, all new qualifying.

Mercedes and Ferraris at the front. Not really a surprise.
