F1 2016

I also think Vettel was going a bit too far in trying not to blame Kimi, or to exonerate himself for any part in damaging Kimi.

First corner - it's always carnage. that's racing. Even Charlie Whiting says he looks the other way and ignores track limit problems and similar-speed contacts.
I agree, the replay shows him moving a very long way to the left and aggressively as well

I'm actually impressed with the amount of press work the drivers do.

When I think back to the golden age, five minutes after a race the winner drivers would be most of the way through a magnum of fizz and all the way through the paddock girls, with still energy for a kebab and a spliff.

Hunt the shunt, he's your man ;)

Hunt - rhymes with his favourite hobby...

:D
What budgies?

Prior to the race in which he won his championship he'd, allegedly, had sex with 33 BA stewardesses. I'm assuming not simultaneously.
He used to pick his hotel depending on which one the stewardesses used to stay in, a man after my own heart ;)

I havent seen china yet, cus my F1 crew is not committed enough, we are gonna watch a download later on, not reading any spoilers

He and Barry Sheene, the last of the true playboy racers. Only Eddie Irvine came close, and then only a distant competitor.

well that was loads better than anticipated

poor kimi tho, loved vettel and kvyat after the race lol, 5 pit stops was a bit long, shoulda got safety car out earlier, surprised all cars lasted, hamilton was fucking limping cus of those tyres, ricciardo's (was it?) puncture was badly timed, some really nice overtaking  vettel overtaking before the pits was awesome

Apparently no driver who has won the opening three races has then failed to win the championship. Long way to go yet (and more races than ever to claw the gap back) but it's already looking good for Nico.

yeah that was discussed with my crew ^

nicos face tho when them other two were arguing afterwards :D

Ted kravitz said that Vettel and Kvyet continued their ding-dong about the accident at the post-race press conference and I wondered why they didn't show it, after all Sky have 3 teams covering the race weekend, Sky Italy, Sky Germany and the Sky UK.

Interestingly enough, Maurizio Arrivabene Ferrari F1 boss did not apportion blame and said "We should not point the finger at others. This is racing, not Monopoly. But if your two drivers crash into one another, that's never good. Kvyat came into the corner at high speed, but Seb and Kimi would have done the same in his position".

Edit to add a link to the text of the post race press conference

I still think that Vettel 'doth protest too much'.

Maybe he was embarrassed that he hit Kimi, plus the head honcho from Ferrari was at the race too.

But the replay's been poured over. Racing incident. Case closed.

At first I thought he was getting his excuses in early.
Then we see he genuinely thinks he has right of way. Basically he always thinks he has right of way. I'm Vettel and it all belongs to me.

It's the start of the race though. 20 cars trying to squeeze through space for 2-3 cars. Shit happens.
Thats the beauty of standing starts over rolling starts. Random shit happens.

Look at what happened to Hamilton. He gets a perfect start and car swerves into him. Wtf can you do? You can't blame the guy for swerving. He had little choice himself.

The post-race conference hasn't been shown on TV for years. Do they even have camera in there any more?

after all Sky have 3 teams covering the race weekend, Sky Italy, Sky Germany and the Sky UK.
But any footage wouldn't come from Sky; it would come from FOM.

Yes the footage would have come from FOM, as does all race footage but one of the teams from sky will I'm sure have had it on tape so it would have been available to Sky UK to show, but as Ted said there was a ding-dong I'd have liked them to show it, they do still have cameras as the footage sometimes appears on the Brazilian coverage.

Here it is if you'd like to watch it :)

Not much of a ding-dong, it seems Ted was over egging it

Having watched it again a few times on the youtube video above, I think Kimi was more to blame than Kvyet, he turns into Vettel:facepalm:

Exactly. And tellingly, Hammy didn't point fingers and throw his toys out. It's what happens down at the unpaid end of the grid.

Manufacturers take aim at Bernie
According to reports in the German press, car manufacturers involved in F1 are getting together to call on CVC to remove Bernie from his position as chief executive of the Formula One Group by the end of the year. Lead by Sergio Marchionne, the overall boss of Ferrari and the CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, he claims to have support from the other manufacturers. Interestingly enough, Marchionne has been tipped as the person who could takeover from Ecclestone as the boss of F1. If it is true, this is likely to be one of the biggest fights Bernie has faced since the manufacturers said they were going to set up an alternative F1 series.

Arrest warrant issued for Force India boss
India’s Enforcement Directorate announced yesterday that a court in Mumbai has granted its request for an arrest warrant for Mallya. The agency wants to question him about allegations that a loan from the IDBI bank was used to buy property abroad. Last week, India suspended Mallya’s diplomatic passport at the request of the Enforcement Directorate. The tycoon left India on March 2 and has been in England ever since.

More on Alfa Romeo and Sauber
Sergio Marchionne, the boss of Fiat Chrysler and Ferrari , has said many times that he would like to see Alfa Romeo return to F1 in the not too distant future. When asked in China about the rumours of Alfa Romeo buying Sauber he is reported to have answered "If someone will assume all the debts...", when co-owner of Sauber Monisha Kaltenborn was also asked she replied "Alfa Romeo would be a good partner for any team". It would make sense for them to buy Sauber rather than setting up a new team as Sauber has state of the art facilities in Hinwil Switzerland, built when Sauber were in partnership with BMW.

F1 television viewers fall by one-third
In his comments to an advertising conference (that seem to have sparked lots of news for his old statements) Bernie also said that Official figures from Formula One Management indicate television audiences fell to about 400 million last year, that is down around 200 million viewers since 2008, a staggering one-third of their audiences. It isn't clear how many viewers are watching the sport by other means but the switch to pay to view must account for a large part of the drop, I'd have thought. Despite the drop in numbers F1 is still one of the most watched annual sporting championships across the globe.

He also admitted that he has been "educated" about social media and says he now understands how important it is. Formula One Management claims to have already generated more than one billion social media impressions so far this year. For those of you who use facebook F1 is currently experimenting with something called "Facebook Live" that will allow them to stream live video, so maybe we will be able to buy F1 race by race via the internet or pay to view companies will sell individual races over the 'net without the need to buy a package.

He also said he would like to see 6 races in the USA and would like to expand the calendar to 25 races. He said they are already discussing a street race in Las Vegas and a race at the Kyalami circuit in South Africa once the rebuilding has finished, he also reiterated his view that Formula One does not need to retain races in Europe, although he would like to see the Germany GP remain and a possible return of the French Grand Prix.
