England Cricket 2022

They should score at least 100 more by close. You'd assume that would be that if they're only 2 or 3 down. Would this be a record of some sort?

If they lose this match there will be several turning points but Root's crazy call there on Lees was criminal

If, during play, the ball cannot be found or recovered or the umpires agree that it has become unfit for play through normal use, the umpires shall replace it with a ball which has had wear comparable with that which the previous ball had received before the need for its replacement.

There needs to be a review of the umpires conduct during the selection of this replacement ball. The new ball had significantly more shine than the old one. There were many balls to choose from but the umpire only looked at 2.

This drop in umpiring standards has changed the match and must be investigated.

I don't really agree with what you are implying, I think the umpiring has been good. But if you want fuel for your fire, Hussein pointed out yesterday that this 'ball doesn't go through the ring - change the ball' thing is NOT what the law says. The ring is a guide only and the umpires are meant to exert their discretion/opinion - not use the ring as the deciding factor.

Just sack the ball boy. Oh, they did. ;)

The umpiring outside of this ball change has been good. This ball change was negligent, at best.

The bit you don't highlight is important here, mind you - 'before the need for its replacement'.

tbf all teams this summer - England, NZ and India - have constantly been pressing to change the ball in the hope of making something happen. Sometimes it's worked, other times it hasn't. And of all the balls in the box, I would assume they are assigned different ages.

It's completely unsatisfactory and disappointing to have the balls constantly changed, but it is what it is. And in each match, both sides have been trying to get an advantage through ball-changing.

Just use Kookaburras then. I did actually hear someone blaming Brexit for the shittiness of the Dukes which is perhaps a bit tenuous but yeh - use one ball, globally.

Well, the shocker yesterday with Potts' 'dismissal' wasn't so good. And could still cost England the match.

Following the protocols, the umpires had no choice but to give it out. It's the protocols that are the problem, this soft signal bollox. (I think it was out btw).

Anyway, give it up, one of those things, life isn't perfect and cricket mirrors that.

Well it is more than a bit ironic that the complaint about Kookaburras is that they go soft after 20 overs.

It's a fucker that the Dukes have been so bad because normally they are better balls.

Kookaburras are shit. You might be lucky and get a few overs of swing out of them. Too batter friendly.
