England Cricket 2014 (Test, ODI, T20)

The BBC even shoe-horned in "omnishambles".

338 would be a difficult 4th innings run chase for a side in good form, batting on a still decent pitch. 338 to make England bat again, in extremely Broad/Anderson friendly conditions, when half the Indian side don't know which end of the bat to hold? Ha.

Can't help but think a win like this over a team that hasn't turned up is no indication of England being back in form. With 6 months till the next test then Oz over here next summer, I think there is still some potential for problems. Credit to the England team, you can only beat the team in front of you and they did pull themselves out of a hole to put their foot on India's neck during this series.

Shame we aren't off to SA over the winter to really see what test cricket is about

It was a little boring then too eh
Ah, hindsight.

At one time, I was calling for a change, not because I hated Cook. I did not want him to fail. I was willing him to succeed, to turn it around. Tbh, he still hasn't really. Scratchy innings this match, and absolutely plumb lb for not many. His batting is still not convincing, and I'm still not convinced by him as a captain.

Let's not get carried away. 3-1 against an awful India team, and 0-1 against a combative but really rather ordinary (in bowling terms) Sri Lanka. Mediocre summer, no better.

ETA: Don't get me wrong. England have done brilliantly well to come back and win like they have. And Cook has been a part of that. But I think you misjudge the attitude here with your 'cook out' jibes. Most of those on here criticising him and questioning his position were doing so from a position in which they wanted him to succeed.

Does anyone know whether its possible to get in towards the end of a one day match for a reduced price? Wouldn't mind popping down to the ODI match at Bristol on Monday for a few hours in the late afternoon.

Doubt it as you would still be taking an allocated seat. Suppose they might do it if there were unsold seats, but it's a sellout afaik.

Can always sneak it at the end of days play at the test, from what I remember, they just open the big gates in the last hour or so. Presumably not in one dayers, given the end is what it's all about. :hmm:

Wanted to go but it aint cheap! That or I'm just poor which is more likely. Hopefully I'll be a bit richer by the time the ashes comes to Cardiff.

Actually feel sorry for Cook, even his own mates telling him he's a bit shit. He is a good test batsman, particularly when he gets lucky like he did against India but he is definitely not a one day man.

The test batsmen all failed. There is enough money, interest and players in England to have a specific one day side. Bell and cook just aren't right for the job. Is stokes unlucky or crap? And Jordan had a shocker.
