England Cricket 2014 (Test, ODI, T20)

Some ruthless captaincy here as usual from cook.. Brilliant.

What's the forecast btw? England's batting lineup is probably worse than Zimbabwe at the moment, so a bit of rain, 4 days, India could do this.

Cook was absolutely and obviously plumb. The commentators suggesting it pitched outside leg to give Reiffel an out must've had their fingers crossed at the time. It fucking obviously pitched on leg and fucking obviously was going on to hit. No need for replays.

Massive fuck-up.

If only India could have referred it :(

I think they'll be reviewing their opposition to DRS after the series.

I'm not saying it would have changed results because they've been shit since Lords, but they have had some shockers.

This one was the worst.

I think someone should review the whole idea of letting one side play their matches with different rules to everyone else.

Amazingly appalling decision.

You don't rate Dharmasena, do you? I think he's one of the best out there. As is Aleem Dar, despite Broadgate. As a general rule of thumb, Australian and South African umpires are shit. Don't know why, but they are.

As you know I'm not a big fan of Kumar Dharmasena but it was Reiffel who fucked the Cook decision today. Sometimes you look at a play like that in real time and the correct decision is obvious. Then the replays make you right but the umpires decision goes the other way. Of course you have to give space for a momentary lapse on the part of the ump, but the standing umpire's priorities are reasonably simple: front foot, pitch, line, and possibility of bat contact.

In the case of Cook today there was nothing even slightly ambiguous. I was appealing with the Indians and spectacularly failing the Tebbit Test!!!

But hey ho!

"Cricket Umpiring" would make a decent thread in its own right.

Wanna go on Monday (if it lasts that long)?

yeah I know. It was Reiffel I was referring to as being shit! I thought Dharmasena's Kohli decision was a brave and correct one. Catch upheld by 3rd umpire was right too, although absolutely no more out than the Buttler one that wasn't given.

Can't do Monday, unfortunately. At a martial arts thing for the next few days.
