And once again, if you want to "illustrate" anything, why not save it for a relavent discussion instead of hijacking someone else's topic?

It really doesn't matter if this is hijacked as it is already being discussed. Which you would have known had you followed the standards you expect of everyone else. :p

Jesus. Incredible debating point. If you oppose the imperialist forces who have spent decades - centuries in the case of Britain and France - causing mayhem in the region doing even more to fuck up the chances of democracy in the Middle East, that means you support Gaddafi? Furthermore, it isn't those who oppose the intervention by the trouble-makers who cosy up to dictators to get oil and arms deals.

I tend to avoid Ern threads TBH, for all the usual reasons! :p

This one seemed to promise more sensible discussion. :D

A companion poll to the informative Ernestolynch thread.

Bit simplistic, in that as far as we (the board-users) don't know what you mean when you say "support Gaddafi". I'll set out my reply in my own terms

I don't support his dictatorship's "right" to defend their territory from their own people: He's only held it through the continued use of overt force against Libya's populace (contrary to what some elements of the left have protested over the last 4 decades, Gaddafi's regime is about as "socialist" as a used johnny).

I don't support the "no fly zone", insofar as it is fairly transparently about supporting (and possibly/probably advancing) "western" financial interests, rather than securing Libya from dictatorship.

OH really thats what the UN resoultion says. The Libyan armies advance has been stopped.
but urbanites know so much more:hmm:

He has now been handed a nationalist card to use against the revolutionary forces and to garner mass support.

I didn`t "know" that:rolleyes:..besides every one but the orange order is "linked" to 9/11....

The Orange Order are linked to 9/11, you daft bugger. Everyone knows that 'twas Orange Order members who supply Osama with his sheets. Haven't you ever heard of the Osama Bed Linen scandal? :p

A non-fuckwitted poll would actually have been quite interesting and useful. I'm ambivalent about intervention and I suspect lots of other people are as well - would have liked to see who else was on the fence.

I'm with you. I can't fully support the man behind the Lockerbie bombing, but I'm ambivalent about US/European military intervention in the country.

Yes. If they were in it for purely selfish reasons the UN resolution would have started something like this: "In order to secure Libya's oil resources for our own use and to undermine/control the rebels..." Obviously. 'Cos they're honest like that.

A perfect example of why a simple minded approach is a load of bollocks.

Gaddafi is nowhere near as bad as he's presented in the Western media. However he is a despot. Removing him from power would probably be a good thing. However the history of British involvement in Arab nations leads me to believe that we should keep the fuck out.

So clear some space on the fence please, because I'm looking to join the "a plague on all your houses" camp. I'd quite like the same bit of fence I sat on for Iraq.
