That's not quite true. His low trajectory, delivering the ball from above middle stump was part of what made him so effective.Just been reading about this Pathirana kid who's been going for 10 an over. Apparently he has modelled his action on Lasith Malinga. Now Malinga was a great bowler but why on earth would anyone deliberately copy his action?
Malinga was great despite his action, not because of it.
But Pathirana does appear to be having a bit of a mare again. Problem with a low arm is that there is no margin for error with your ball release. Release early and you spray it down leg. Release late and you spray it wide of off. And that tends to come under high pressure. Malinga's genius was his ability to control direction with that action when under the highest pressure.
