Belgium vs England - (3rd/4th) - 15:00 - 14/7/18

I don't either team were particularly good. Did you?
Colombia without Rodriguez looked poor and were more intrested in a tear up, they should have had a go as they kept the ball well enough. Sweden were shocking and no better than some championship teams i watched last season.

Not bitter, realistic. which is more than most England fans seem capable of being.
I dunno, the England fans i know and talk to aren't daft, why would they carried away when it's fucking eons since they won something. The media are guilty of what you say, but on the whole i think getting a bit carried away after a big win is normal behavior, but it's hardly unique to English fans.

With James Rodriguez they are still 16th in World (and he wasn't playing), and Sweden are 24th!
Hardly relevant, as Croatia are only one of the top 3 teams in world by virtue of beating england and being in the easier half of the draw!
If the results of the tournament aren't relevant then you can't say there was an easier half of the draw.

Yet you're arguing that the coca cola league is some kind of gold standard (probably because Wales were recently doing well in it), whilst ignoring that Germany, who are at the top of that league were absolutely fucking useless over their 3 games against mediocre opposition.

The tournament proves a much better gauge for the current standard. The teams that have played the best have gone further. Therefore there was no easy route.

If you think supporting England is a tough gig, try being a Scotland supporter for while. :D

the fact that southgate had phil jones and delph in the squad, really makes me think he is over-rated as manager and just got lucky with the draw

I'd respectfully disagree. Mexico would be expected to get at least a play off place in the championship, if not direct promotion, and Sweden comfortably did away with them 3-0, in a game that Mexico needed just a draw in. Held (an admittedly crap) Germany for 95mins and did away with Holland and Italy in qualifying. Certainly no slouches.

I think Southgate is about right, saying England are top 10 but not up there with the best. Winning 4 and losing 3, well 2.5 given that group game was a bit odd, not great but okay. The thing they did was beat the teams they should have beaten, maybe not Croatia but we've struggled against even the weak teams in previous competitions. Reasonably attractive in the main. Lucky with the draw, but he's done a better job at tournament, given the side he had, than any manager for a long while. 7/10

Future looks bright surely, decent squad now and two youth teams of world champions coming on. If Southgate grows and learns too that's a lot of promise.

Yeah I'd say that's fair. I think England in the past have been much weaker than the sum of their parts. This team have met their potential I think and you have to be happy with that. They don't have the players to match the best though.
