Are you excited by the new blue British passports (made in Poland)?

i am contesting your 'it was completely different'. and i have uploaded a picture of the auld passport. the new passport retains the 'let the bearer pass without let or hindrance'. it retains the picture page with signature etc. it retains the pages for stamps and endorsements. it is for all intents and purposes identical to the previous incarnation save the withdrawal of the european union bits.

well the 2 passports are different. the old one was a hardback black passport, with a space for holders name at the top handwritten and the passport number at the bottom. The new passport is blue and is soft like the current burgundy one. So how is it not different? Wheres the pic? I cant see it. However someone uploaded a pic of the old passport and its black.

i can post the picture for you but i cannot see it for you.

please correct me if i am wrong, but you seem to be saying that because one was black and hardcover with the carrier's name and passport number on the front, and the new one is blue and softcover, the two documents are "completely different".

there are as you point out differences. but the differences are of so minor an order, and so completely outweighed by the similarities, which include a) purpose; b) the quimmy coat of arms on the front; c) the name, date and place of birth, signature and photograph on the same page; d) the inclusion of pages for stamps and other marks; e) details of a person to contact in the case of emergency and f) the admonition to let the bearer pass without let or hindrance, that only a pointless pedant could declare the new passport and the auld utterly divorced from each other

Well they are different please see the pics that I uploaded of both passports. I just dont like being told that we are going back to the original passports when its not true. Are we also going back to the original routemaster buses or anything else that was taken away and replaced? No, of course not.

Its not particularly different - Most current/modern passports are designed to conform to the UN/IACO specifications for air transit - in size, information contained and readability (machine or otherwise) - The IACO being of course an international body based in Montreal, Canada.

The old passport was a very deep blue, although it looked black in some light conditions.

You're right of course. We are not going back to those old passports. We are getting a standard passport which is identical in every physical way to the current passports. Just a different colour.

I can't believe people are wasting their time over this, nor can I believe that I went & dug-out my old passport as a result.

And...

* drum roll *

FUCKING BLACK!

No, police woman’s perhaps...

but old school bobby on the beat, or boys in blue, what colour were their tunics?

I haven't seen a bobby on the beat in fucking years, and when I did I tended to walk past without any eye contact, nor attention to their uniform.

If I had a spare old one knocking about in a draw, that I could put under a bright desk light & examine with my magnifying glass, I would, but I haven't, so I can't.

OK, an easier one; what colour is the uniform of the Royal Navy?

British racing green would have been a good call, but navy blue is fine.

Really the change of colour is more symbolic of leaving a failing authoritarian anti-democratic abomination for many.

And yet here we are under Boris Johnson

Bit weird you still need a physical passport come to think of it. You'd reckon you could use an app these days, like with bank cards and tickets and stuff. Matter of time surely
