I suspect that for at least some people it's more of a gesture than a practical thingWhy would you need an EU passport if you had no desire to move, live, work in the EU?
Yes depending on price of visas, it may well be cheaper to just get another passport.Visas and shit. Broadly, EU passports could be more useful as visa free acres is agreed as a bloc- whether the UK can still take advantage of this is yet to be confirmed. If you travel a bit , it could be an issue that needs to be taken in board.
I don’t know if it’s the same, check the embassy website, but to get Slovakian citizenship I needed to show my dad’s actual birth certificate proving his Slovak-ness, grandparents would not have been enough. It was a long slog and expensive, but people at the embassy were helpful. My grandparents were from Czechoslovakia - would I be eligible? No idea how I would prove that. They had British passports after coming to the UK as refugees.
What are the eligibility requirements? My parents were living in Edinburgh 9 months before I was born. I have a Scottish family name with a tartan. Do I qualify?I would definitely be eligible for a Scottish passport in those circumstances, but really not sure if I'd bother.
I think for me it was mostly about feeling that I could, still move to any eu country to live. I have no immediate plans at all but have always had this idea that I don’t want to get old and die here in Uk.I suspect that for at least some people it's more of a gesture than a practical thing

You won't, the UK won't exist by thenI think for me it was mostly about feeling that I could, still move to any eu country to live. I have no immediate plans at all but have always had this idea that I don’t want to get old and die here in Uk.
A chairdeI've got the docs for the Irish passport lined up, mostly need to get references and budget the cash for it. Current plan is to do so sometime in Feb/March but it depends on how much fucks I can give to getting references because those are a pain in the arse.
I can't remember the exact requirements, but in the run-up to the last Indy Ref I more than qualified (3 grandparents and 1 parent born in Scotland)What are the eligibility requirements? He’s got both citizenships, was born in (what is now) Slovakia tho.But is your Dad Slovak or British?

There aren't any (yet) AFAIK but don't think a Scottish name and a tartan would swing it.I can't remember the exact requirements, but in the run-up to the last Indy Ref I more than qualified (3 grandparents and 1 parent born in Scotland)

I might be able to get an Italian passport (Italian grandmother) but would need to dig into the paperwork as it's a bit dependent on naturalisations/timings/sexist shit where Italian women used to be able to hold Italian citizenship but not pass it on (and whether I could get it via my GGF instead). To complicate things further, most/all? of the local records were destroyed during the war though believe you can potentially get them reconstructed (not sure how though).
From doing a little bit of reading, looks like that can be got round but it involves court stuff so... Which is why it might be easier to do it via my great-grandfather instead... Once of my Mum's cousins actually did a pretty comprehensive family tree some years ago so might see if that helps at all.Yep! Exactly that is our issue too.

My best hope is trying to get an Italian one via my OH, who has Italian lineage, but it's a well complicated process involving dealing with family in Brazil, misspelled birth certificates, translating certificates into Italian and a legal process which is too ball achingly complex to think about.

I don't have either a Scottish name (my paternal grandfather was Canadian) or a tartan, so hopefully I'm still OKThere aren't any (yet) AFAIK but don't think a Scottish name and a tartan would swing it.
