That's Venus.

Jupiter's been rising late at night in the east for months.

But now you can see both Venus (in the west) and Jupiter (in the east) in the early evening. Both much brighter than anything else in the night sky right now.

I think that's the Ardeches, we can see the Alps in the other direction.

Only 400km off then...

I lived in Annonay for 2 months when I was 15 on a cultural exchange trip.

Dicking about on mobylettes, drinking bottom shelf red from plastic bottles and being snogged by incredibly sophisticated French girls.
