My father was brought up in ferryside, I spent a lot of my preteen youth on that estuary when the tides out cockeling.

Total lack of emmets
We still get a lot of cockling on this side of the river when the beds are officially open but it's a big commercial thing these days and it's not unusual to see 50 or 60 cars with trailers parked at the water's edge. Truth be told the cocklers aren't popular with the locals or holidaymakers as they leave an awful mess behind when they go and they zoom up and down the sand in their vehicles with very little regard for other beach users. Thankfully they're only here for two days a week in the season.
