Alt text: Castlerigg Stone circle. One of the stones is in the foreground while the ring circles away from it to the left and into the mud distance. Behind the circle, the Sun struggles through the clouds making the distant hills pinker in hue.

Ah...Nice memories for me, we had relatives in the Bournemouth/Dorset area and used to go into the Forest.

My dad lives between Beaulieu and Lymington and we're visiting, spent a very convivial evening at his local pub last night, the Turfcutters Arms, decent band on, everyone got smashed. A walk in the forest this morning, a nice bike ride round the place, now heading off for a long lunch at Bucklers Hard. Could all be worse...

East Mill Tor view from West Mill Tor. As a non-driver, the novelty of being able to get on the train to Okehampton and just start walking up to places like this on my own without having to rely on anyone for a lift has not worn off even three years after the railway reopened.

Impractical, but want anyway.
At least when I am feeling in a hermit sort of mood.

It's my kids favourite place in the forest - it's owned by the Cadbury family, but it's used about once a decade. We go there and sit on the veranda, have picnics, read stories, watch for deer and buzzards and kites, listen to the woodpeckers...
