US election 2020 thread

Yeah it’s a weird story.Nobody knows what the story is but it’s sitting there on guardians front page now too.

And the independent. Struck me as strange that 'Trump' should be half a line above 'Biden'. You'd think it would be at the same height - and so invisible.

good explainer here:

After Election Day, the Trump campaign sent more than 130 emails soliciting campaign contributions, according to a tally maintained by the Twitter account @TrumpEmail. Most of those emails appear to be soliciting funds to support the legal effort that Trump claims will reverse the results of the election.

...

But if you read the fine print, money sent to the Election Defense Task Force will not necessarily be used to finance the Trump campaign's lawsuits. Donors are actually contributing to the Trump Make America Great Again Committee (TMAGAC), a joint fundraising committee of Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. and the Republican National Committee. 60% of the money donated to TMAGAC will go to pay the Trump campaign's debt and 40% will go to the general operating account of the Republican National Committee. Money is only designated for recounts or other legal efforts if an individual donor reaches their legal limit or Trump retires his debt.

so again it's the grift.

of course its a grift

followed by a film, tv show , book, after dinner speech circuit and radio shows about how he struggled against the system but bravely lost his fight against the deep state

Alternative possibility is that he/they are genuinely terrified of what comes after Jan 20, and there is no choice but to pursue any path to keeping things as they are, however narrow.

Trump could do a tour with David Icke!

The grift explanation on its own doesn’t help with why anyone apart from trump and offspring are continuing down this path does it ? Like the majority of the Republican Party i mean.

The majority of RP politicians have Trump-supporting electors they wish not to offend. Plus it's a useful public controversy if you want to push state legislatures into restricting postal voting.

Not just postal voting but (maybe) a whole load of new ID requirements etc. More of the same.

I can confirm it’s true - downloaded the image direct from the no.10 Twitter, and used gimp rather than photoshop, but it’s clearly there. Give me a few minutes and I’ll post up what I got...

it is weird. Presumably the trump version was longer ( more effusive/ detailed) and thats why the words are so much smaller.

70 million voted for him and party

massive numbers

so they have to run with it until he is forced to depart

Honestly you are reading far too much into it. those kind of errors happen all the time, graphic designers are terrible for not starting documents from scratch but reusing an old one that's already the right size etc. And that wasn't even done by a proper graphic designer most probably.

i'll take it with a pinch of salt but

Would this surprise anyone for Boris

Did he not have a article prepared for a no vote to the brexit bill

or was i taken in by fake news

:hmm:

i think its great. There's a guy on now with his mask hanging off his left ear talking about the different kinds of pens he thinks people had used on the ballots he saw when he was poll watching for trump, how some of the pens must have been quite thick and some not so much.

To add to the farce it turns out that guy is a convicted child sex offender, who has spent his time since being released from jail standing for NY elections and being jailed again for failing to make child maintenance payments to three different mothers.

I think thats the other guy, this one was the one who looked like penfold from dangermouse.

So what happens if they manage to keep it tied up to the point where states haven't been able to legally declare results in January? If I was American I'd be buying some more guns about now.

Assuming no substantial changes in the results after recounts etc. then Trump would need 37 electoral college voters to flip their votes from Biden to Trump. That's equivalent to Pennsylvania, Georgia and Arizona (or other combinations potentially involving Michigan and Wisconsin too).

I just can't see any way that electors rebel in enough numbers to be able to change the result of the election, unless the Trump team are able to come up with anything more substantial on electoral fraud than they've got now. If there are enough faithless electors, or states sending alternative slates of electors to congress to change the result, then expect a major constitutional crisis and mass riots.

They haven't actually declared enough states to win legally yet.
