US election 2020 thread

Yes, that is likely. They never came after Nixon - Ford pardoned him for everything he did while president, but not for the shit he got up to in order to become president. That was just kept quiet.

But there is loads of state-level stuff with Trump. It would be nice for New York if he ended up never daring to set foot in it again.

However, that said, if I were Biden, I'd want something in return. Nixon got his pardon as part of a deal for resigning. What's Trump got to offer?
Yes, his biggest problems atm are at state level.
It would also trash any possibility of him running in 2024, be a major credibility issue for TrumpTV, and probably torpedo the future chances of his cuntish offspring and his hopes for a political dynasty.

Well there is also the reasoning Ford gave for the Nixon pardon - that accepting a pardon is a bit like accepting a police caution: you're let off but only with a tacit admission of guilt.

But he's finished politically anyway, so finishing him off formally with an official pardon doesn't really achieve anything.

I just read that in Georgia there are still 8000 votes outstanding from military personal. Apparently in the post but won't be counted unless they turn up today. I know rules are rules but that actually is a scandal. How can they not get their shit together enough to ensure those votes arrived? Its not like the election came as a surprise or the US army doesn't have any logistics capabilities.

Going quietly. Not nuking Sweden.

I've long thought about the possibility that Biden might offer Trump a pardon through some quiet back channel im exchange for a concession and an orderly exit, but such a deal would have to be handled by the adults in the room amd I'm not sure Trump has any adults in the room.

But, surely, to be pardoned for doing something, first the doing of that something has to be admitted [or proved with a conviction] ?
Yep. This was the excuse Ford used - that he had got Nixon to admit guilt by accepting the pardon. Being pardoned isn't great for your legacy. ;)

I don't think Biden will pardon Trump, but for the reason given above - cos they won't be investigating anything so there's nothing to pardon. Best hope of getting him is Capone-style - for tax evasion or fraud.

Yes but a more informal deal to ensure no future prosecutions could also be a possibility. Like someone else said, there's no need to publically humiliate Trump further as he's a busted flush.
