Uruguay vs England (Group D) Thursday 19th June 2014

Don't see why Rooney is being criticised. He scored a goal, hit the crossbar, narrowly missed a free kick, made some creative passes, created the goal in the last game. The problem is they aren't getting the ball to Rooney enough
...and the defence!

"Te doy gracias por el regalo"

I don't think many people believed deep down, when the draw was made, that England were going to get through the group stage. We've just managed to suspend our disbelief for a couple of matches. Back to earth with a bump.

Luis Suarez said:
"I dreamt this. I'm enjoying this moment, because of all I suffered, the criticism I received. So, there you go."
Not sure I could celebrate that, even if I was very anti-English :(

look if you going to get annoyed at anyone choosing to play for Wales..

it should be giggs..

with your current offering you still be shit with bale..

hth
No point getting annoyed that Giggs chose Wales. They only other country he was qualified for was Sierra Leone!

Do we have to do an inquest? A squad with a number of young players who are improving all the time was on the wrong end of the odd goal in two tight games. The sky hasn't fallen in...

But those young players are being shaped and poisoned by the hierarchy and senior players.... Gerrard did a number on them with his 'pain of failure' motivational speech.... The sky hasn't existed for some time so it's not there to fall in.

I am genuinely pleased that the young players were utilised, but it's outside of those young players where the cancer is... It needs chemo.....

What hierarchy is going to be left in 2 years time? Rooney? Cahill and Jagielka hardly count.

I'm confused. If I'd bet £10 on England lasting longer than Spain, and they hadn't...I'd lose...right? Or have i had too many 'nun's delights'?
The original post didn't say when the bet would have to be made, so it could've been made after Spain were already out whereas England still aren't out. There's a minute chance we go through.

Gerrard fucking woeful, both games - England's worst player. Henderson anonymous, bit better tonight. Rooney, shit first game, significantly better tonight - but they still can't fit him in. Johnson a better attacking player tonight than last time, but very predictable. Baines 1.5 games shit (attacking), followed by a very good half. Hart - had 4 chances to pull off world class saves. Didn't. Sterling, Wellbeck and Sturridge great in the first game, less so tonight etc etc.

Actually, 2 not bad performances against better teams, but no real consistency. You could never say all the players in the defence, midfield or attack played well together or for any stretch of time. Pity Townsend was injured, pity they didn't even bring Carrick, but there was always a very good chance this would happen when we got drawn against Italy and Uruguay. No much consolation, but it was actually better than 2010...

Wales stars have already scored winners in Copa Del Ray, FA Cup and Champions League final. It was only fair we let someone else have a chance of glory!

Wow that's pretty fucking desperate considering England players have done the last two in more or less every season this century and have qualified for every world cup this century. Then again you're Welsh so I suppose you have to take whatever you can get, even if it does make you look like a grasping at straws tit :D

I can't watch any more football. The disappointment is just too great.

Another 90 minutes of my life I will never get back.... England suck.

No
They are facts in response to the desperate "if only so and so played for us" shit when englund lose :D
Hillarious

I don't think it was realistic to hope for anything more than tight games with Italy and Uruguay. Tight games get decided by fine margins, and it was in the fine margins that England were deficient.

Hillarious

What? When did I say if only so and so played for us? (I assume that's what you mean as I can't see what bearing who plates our dinner up has on our chances)

What's hilarious is the desperate coat tail riding from ABES every time England are in a tournament that their shit team yet again failed to even have a sniff of qualifying for. It gets better on the rare occasion you do qualify and then you throw your toys out the pram when England fans rip the piss out of you for your team's piss poor performance. All part of the fun though I guess :D

You have to watch through that. Only Japan v Greece can dull such pain.
I'm not even going to watch Match of the Day when it comes back.... I watch all the teams with England players in the Premiership on MOTD every week, simply because they're likely to be selected for England. But every fucking time there is a tournament, England end up being overwhelmed, out-played or just plain stupid when it matters most. :( :(

Desperately disappointing.

So fuck it. I'll take an interest in something else.

Really? International football's nowhere near as good a pastime as club football.

Right, I'm a Chile fan for the next fortnight.
I do want to see Portugal go through, but that's largely so I can see Ronaldo cry in the knockout stages.
