Italy v Uruguay (Group D) Tuesday 24th June 2014

Seems like a fair ban. Shit for Liverpool, but they knew he was like this already.

Man needs counselling and dental care.

Flawed genius status guaranteed. There is no shame for the great and the good at ball juggling.

Cantona's doing TV adverts as if he was Richard Briers these days. In 2034 Suárez will be flogging something too, with an ironic reference to his behaviour.

Oh no wait! That was last week!

No consolation for Italy.
No I guess not. Though the devil in me is thinking 'that's karma for you'. As a Spaniard, the memories of Mauro Tassotti elbowing Luis Enrique and actually breaking his nose during the 1994 WC quarter final are still fresh in the memory. As it happened in the penalty box it should have been a penalty + red card. Nothing was given and Spain was knocked out. Tassotti subsequently received a record 8-game ban, which was little consolation.

What really pisses me off is that FIFA/ UEFA actively forbids the replaying of any controversial incidents on a stadium's big screens. The technology is there for referees to review incidents almost instantly, and the cunts in charge of the game are dead set against it, for reasons that remain unexplained and unjustified.

I may be wrong but I always understood that that was done to stop the crowd going bonkers if a bad mistake was made by teh ref :hmm:

It's for safety isn't it? You don't want to show a large crowd of pissed up angry people a replay of something controversial.
Fair enough. The ref could still review it on a wristwatch device, or like I believe they do in rugby, have one of his assistants review the incident on a TV screen.

The aversion to technology by Blatter & co is astounding.

Yeah, we're lucky we got goal line tech really I suppose.

It would just break up the game too much. Rugby has more natural breaks and the video ref is wreaking that game too. It doesn't stop the controversy either - look at cricket.

You could limit the reviews to two or three per team- a bit like cricket or hawkeye in tennis- and leave it up to them to challenge a decision. Not that much disruption there.

Suarez wouldn't have been sent off even with a TV referee - it took ages for all the angles proving Suarez's offence to be made available, and many of the angles initially were inconclusive. Fuck holding up the game for 5 minutes to check every angle multiple times.
