Uruguay vs England (Group D) Thursday 19th June 2014

As I said in my previous post, I think you're years out of date, for the reasons I gave.

People were posting videos becuase of silly claims ddraig made, not because of what you've said.

The reason I don't think it's out of date is because it's what I felt when I was at a FIFA fan-zone in Rio in 2010 (set up as Brazil was next host) and because of the fact that in 2006 the BBC had to pull the big screens across England after just a week, because English people couldn't sit together in public for a football game without fights breaking out, despite supporting the same team. Is there a precedent for that in other major footballing countries? There might be but my instinct says no.

Even though we've weeded out a lot of the worst elements, there's a vague feeling of menace to England fans. When they're not actually being violent they're still moody and give off a bad vibe. Other nationalities feel it and they tend to avoid us. We're not the only drunk ones around, but there's something nasty that manifests itself when we've had a few. I AM English and I can see it now I've been away a few years and compared us to other countries.

The legions of Spanish fans who came over for the Chelsea game earlier this season made most people in Clapham Junction feel very uncomfortable that night. Especially for the people who could partially translate the obscenities they were shouting en-masse.

Spanish fans are generally noisy and nothing else. Which team was this? Atleti? There aren't any Spanish chants that will have been directed at the local population that I can think of. What were they singing? Calling Mourinho "hijo de puta"? Was there any trouble?

Even in the event that this was true there's a difference betwen odd events and general truths.

No I watched Spain 82......ffs it's only a google away.

That's the biggest what the fuck I've had for years. I thought Keegan missed a header and we didn't even make it to the finals as a result! My whole adult life I've believed we didn't take part in the tournament at all. Amazing.

Soz then!

Wasn't that '78? When Scotland (as legend has it) went off thinking they had a genuine chance (no arrogance there) and got done by Iran?

It must be. I'm surprised I don't remember anything about England in 82. Totally convinced we weren't there in fact. I was 5 but it's old enough to have a few blurry memories.

You say that like it's a bad thing

Of course this happens in other countries. There is almost no trouble at England games these days compared to other countries.

This simply isn't true, as per my previous post answering you.

You can't deny my own subjective experience!

I'm not talking about trouble. You don't get it and I don't think you can.

e2a. Wait! Can you help me find instances where in another European country they've had to stop public screenings of national games because everyone started kicking off?

I don't think stopping screenings in England can be used as an example when you're arguing that our travelling supporters are all 'menacing'.

I'm not denying some football supporters are, but it's not just a Britsh thing, let alone just an English thing.

Easy get out clause, that one.

It's about English people being together in public abroad and their attitude and the vibe they give off, as well as the state they get in. I've observed it with my own eyes, it's what the entire planet seems to feel around us and yet you're denying it. Blind. I'm not saying they are ALL menacing but I guarantee you that people want to steer clear of us when they've got options.

Just ask foreigners. My word's not good enough. Just talk to other people. The truth is out there.

You did say all, and I've said all along there are some like that.

I think there is some truth in this tbf. Like I said before it's that Friday night atmosphere exported.

It's absolutely a British thing not an English thing though. I don't think 'oh don't worry they're not English they're actually Glaswegian' is something you'd hear often.
