When Hodgson was manager of Liverpool, I used to slate him fiercely on a Liverpool forum. I wasn't on Urban then I don't follow England friendlies so I don't post in those threads here. I don't know if I'm an England fan or not, I'm confused, but I do think Roy is a very bad manager.
I can't really imagine him setting a team up in a way that would deal with a wiley fox of an opposition coach. The defeats might not be down to him, it's just hard to not have that thought pass through yourmind if you saw him take your club down to, what was it - 16th or something? at one point.

We went downhill from the Italy game, without Suarez Uruguay were average. We were not prepared to take chances, weak shots straight at keeper countless times, Suarez allowed a ridiculous amount of space, poor closing down, the will to get the ball at times was woeful.

As against Italy we were undone by a player of real class, Rooney is not in that league. That's not his fault the public and the media elevate him to. That level. We do not possess a world class player. The only time we won the World Cup we had several.
Uruguay have a population of 3.7million, we have 20 x that number, yet they consistently outperform us in World Cup completions, this is the real issue that needs to get tackled and that goes right to the roots of the game and our national psyche...
I don't blame Hodgson or the players for that matter. It is the cronyism and self serving twats at the top of our game that should be held to account, they wankfest on their own self importance and status, little attempt is made to really get decent finance and facilities through to the seedbed of the game.

I still think he could have been, but has only been played up front as the main striker for one season in the last few years when he scored 34 goals in 45 games.
I'd imagine if suarez were played in midfield he might well also not get quite as many goals.

Alright. I don't think it's FA cronyism, I don't think it's a grass roots problem, I don't think it needs solving with the kids. I think we've got a good group of players, a mediocre coach and we lost 2 50/50 games against good opposition. No major overhauls of anything needed.
