Uruguay vs England (Group D) Thursday 19th June 2014

Do we have to do an inquest? A squad with a number of young players who are improving all the time was on the wrong end of the odd goal in two tight games. The sky hasn't fallen in...

aye once wayne is gone its look quite positive

Don't see why Rooney is being criticised. He scored a goal, hit the crossbar, narrowly missed a free kick, made some creative passes, created the goal in the last game. The problem is they aren't getting the ball to Rooney enough
It's not his fault, but the fact is, like Lampard, despite his obvious quality - his inclusion in the England team is to the detriment of the rest.

Look at this performance vs the last. The only difference was Rooney was moved into his preferred position and Stirling, who was England's best player, was pushed out to the wing.

Your post implied you weren't out of touch with statistics.

I was wrong anyway, as a no-loss bet is good odds whatever they are.

1 billion to 1 on is still good odds if you can't lose.

I'm confused. If I'd bet £10 on England lasting longer than Spain, and they hadn't...I'd lose...right? Or have i had too many 'nun's delights'?

Entitled to your opinion but I have to say dropping Rooney sounds insane to me. He's the only player that actually scores goals

The only confirmation I got from that game was Arsenal should have bid £50,000,001 for Suarez last summer!

A very good point. Those younger players will have learned a lot from that.

bollocks.

Oh well. England were scrappy, Uruguay were very good - a different team to the rubbish that caved in to costa rica. On another day england would have two draws from those opening games.

More than the shaky defence, the main england weakness for me was midfield. Gerrard is not a holding midfielder, we need an owen hargreves or similar back there. TBH Tom huddlestone would have been better than Gerrard in that role.

I wish we were definitely out though. The 25% chance of results going out way and still qualifying is just prolonging the pain.
