I thought we played really well at times, but suarez put away his 2 chances, rooney scored one, but hit the bar with his other main chance, which was the difference.

Agreed but Gerrard played as good (bad) as he did in the last match. The team as a whole was worse, though. the only change was Rooney. And the opposition. And maybe the expectation.
