Urban75 Album of the Year 1983

That would explain why it hadn't been mentioned on this thread before! OK, I officially retract my not-that-enthusiastic-in-the-first-place vote for it. Will have to remember to vote for it in the 84 poll, along with Too Many Humans by No Trend, which my media library also insists is from 83.
Maybe you could be not-that-enthusiastic about The Exploited instead?

I was only two years old in 1983, but a memory from my childhood is Pat Benatar cassettes in the car.

I still quite like her music, it’s an energetic mix of poppy rock so I will chuck in her live album: Live From Earth which features Love Is A Battlefield

In fact I might listen to some of stuff on when I start work in a bit, I could do with a bit of livening up.

Good article about the musicians McClaren ripped off for Duck Rock.
Guardian article from earlier this year.
Might still make my list as I loved it at the time.

World Famous Supreme Team were awesome

Rather than post more individual tracks here's a mix* I did a while ago of early 80s stuff, mostly 1983 but with plenty of 1982 & '81. Mostly italo disco instrumentals but also electro, disco, boogie, new wave, alternative dance, ambient. It's goes on a bit, in fact it goes on for more than a day.
*don't expect snappy beat matching this is more of a compilation than a mix, tracks mostly just faded into into each other.

I do still love a bit of Pat Benatar

only know this because of the book by Simon Reynolds
Rip It Up And Start Again

kind of fascinating video

Youtube comments says
This is the first ever record featuring the Roland TB-303 (the bass synthesiser that became a foundation for acid house music) to enter the UK charts. Feel free to use this information to impress your friends and others, who are into music.

(jsut checked Discogs and its Nov 82)

It's a good album, but it came out in 1982.

Just compiling my list. Can't be bothered with youtube links but here are some that haven't been mentioned yet.

New Order - Power Corruption and Lies. Doesn't have Blue Monday which came out this year, but does have the brilliiant Age of Consent
Echo and the Bunnymen - Porcupine. The Cutter and the Back of Love on here, although the rest of the album not as good.
REM - Murmur. Their first album, before they hit their stride.
Fun Boy Three - The Waiting. Has the classic Our Lips Are Sealed, and the harrowing Well Fancy That. Produced by David Byrne, no less.

Can't believe the Cure didn't release an album this year.

Whammy by The B-52's was this year. Not their best, and the synths sound dated, but it does contain this. The star sign intros are an ace pastiche of Float on.

Is there still time? Can I do it after dinner? I haven't been enthusiastic enough to do it in good time but I still want the chance to inflict my dreary dad-rock on the boards.

Yeah no problem. I haven't done my list yet tbh.

Say by 8pm.
