Urban75 Album of the Year 1983

32= Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These)

I remember this clearly from the time but it only occurs to me now how Kraftwerk it was. I have great trouble explaining to younger generations why music from the 80's sounds like emo robots. It's what we thought the future was going to be.
Many years ago, a late friend of mine once paraphrased Shakespeare and said "If music be the food of love, the Eurythmics would be a spam butty." I quite liked the Eurythmics.

26= Διονύσης Σαββόπουλος (Dionysus Savopoulus) - Τραπεζάκια Έξω

Well this is a surprise. An entry from the Greek singer, actor and rebel. More straightlaced than his 70's work that I'm familiar with. Think Greek Tom Waits. I feel I need to know Greek to appreciate this properly. Well done the two of you who voted for it!

I heartily recommend this album. The little Greek I picked up when I lived there 30 years ago has long since evaporated but the singing, song writing, arrangement and musicianship are impeccable.

Can anyone remind me how the scoring works ?

It's on a points based system. If you submit a list in order then the top album gets 21 points* then the album beneath that get's 90% of 21 and the album below that gets 90% of that and so on...

21
18.9
17.01
15.309
13.7781
12.40029
11.160261
10.0442349
9.03981141
8.135830269
7.322247242
6.590022518
5.931020266
5.337918239
4.804126416
4.323713774
3.891342397
3.502208157
3.151987341
2.836788607

And so on.

Top album spots do very well under this and lower scores count very significantly as well if other people are voting for the same album. It sags in the middle a bit.

*the value of 21 doesn't matter, I just use it because it helps me compare with the old scoring system.

I’m absolutely shite at maths . Does that mean that no 1s in longer lists score more points ? Are more points allocated to longer lists ?

No.1's always score the same - 21. There are more points in longer lists*.

I could go for a system where everyone has a certain number of points to spend and they are distributed in one way or another across each list. But that would boost no.1's on short lists as you suggest and that doesn't feel right to me.

*There is a mathematical limit of 210 (10x21) points even if you submit 300 albums the sum total will never exceed 210.
