Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-25

That said, nothing should be excluded. We will do everything that we can to make sure that Russia does not prevail.

so, if they do send troops and they get beat as well, what next? if nothing should be excluded, that means the west will not stop escalating until all the nukes have been fired. these people are fucking deranged.

Yes, because Ukraine isn't a nuclear power. You really think the UK was conscripting old people that someone wouldn't have pushed the button long before?
thats reassuring. if we are lucky our skin will fall off and we will die in a post nuclear hell. i think that might be a bit worse than conscription.

I hope this is just Macron's occasional but predictable 'I'm the man of the hour' shtick demonstrating once more his advocacy that Frances is the leading role in the EU. It's np coincidence that his made for headline remarks were made at an EU seminar on Ukraine he was hosting. His remarks have been heavily criticised by the opposition in France.

I hope so too.

Fascist, Marine Le Pen, is the leading political figure on the French right and she has had a close longstanding relationship with the Russian regime and Putin.
Absolutely correct and her party has had loans , now paid back I think , from Russia . However the position of her and her party changed after the invasion , conveniently perhaps ,for the French elections . She condemned the invasion , said a Russian victory would be catastrophic, and says that Ukraine had the right to join NATO . It would therefore be difficult to say that RN , or indeed any of the French opposition of which RN is in a minority , supports Russia.

Come to think about Macron is probably the leader in the EU who has met Putin the most ?

Sri Lanka throwing out Russians avoiding the war there because they're setting up Russian businesses with "Whites Only" policies inside Sri Lanka.

They're throwing out the Ukrainians too, to try and be diplomatic, but the Russians outnumber them 10 to 1.

I have a colleague from a Sri Lankan background whose recently returned from the area who said the issue was with both young Russians and Ukrainians as well as Israelis. In all three cases a lot of people leaving their home countries to avoid being conscripted.

you believe only thirty one thousand ukrainian soldiers have been killed?
Do I belive him (Zelensky)? Well, we do have that single peer-reviewed article. Let me quote from that:
"We find no evidence of systematic bias in Ukrainian reports of Ukrainian military deaths."
And:
"We compute the ratio of casualties to deaths for Russia and Ukraine, finding values of 2.9:1 and 4.9:1, respectively."
That would give a total of 150k Ukrainan casualties, which is a bit lower than but farily close to estimates from other sources.

Russia's and Ukraine's incentives to lie are different. Russia primarily targets their domestic audience, who already knows that the regime is lying through their teeth, so they have to lie even more to make people think that the war is going well for Russia.

Ukraine's primary concern is western support - domestic support will likely be relatively high anyway. Blatant lies erodes trust in the Ukrainian government, which will impact aid. If anything, Ukraine is more incentivized to overstate their own losses, and, by extension, their aid needs. Both Ukrainians and "westerners" already know that the war isn't going great for Ukraine. If the real KIA figures were 50k or 75k, stating that wouldn't erode either foreign or domestic support.

Ukraine simply has no reason to lie, every reason not to, and independent, peer reviewed science claim that they don't lie. Do I believe him? Not blindly, but I see no reason not to in this case.
