Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-25

Well that's me conclusively told with a solid argument. Guess I'd better fuck off now with my tail between my legs.

No one ever uses that correctly, either. The magic beans did work and were the greatest thing that ever happened to Jack, leading to him retiring a rich man. Sucked for the giant, of course. That would probably be Russia in this hopelessly twisted metaphor. :)

ETA, for anyone who's paying attention, Ukraine did clarify that 31k is confirmed dead, identity known, buried in Ukrainian cemetery. If you add in MIA, it's around 70k. But if you're reading the news, you know that. I assume some posters think that's a lie, too.
Watch from 2:56 for a solid Jack & the Beanstalk review.

That would be the conscription that you yourself were talking about a scant few weeks ago, you demented fool.
The conscription efforts that have not been enacted due to their parliament objecting, the corruption, the legions of proud patriots who have legged it elsewhere?

I am pretty lazy when it comes to maths but nevertheless there is no specific statement from Zelensky stating a 5:1 ratio to be found anywhere..
Obtuse or what?

Zelensky claims 31,000 Ukrainian dead armed forces.

Zelensky claims 180,000 Russian dead.

Ratio of claimed Ukrainian to Russian deaths equals 180,000 divided by 31,000. Result is: 5.8

Ukraine (not Zelensky) claims 31,000 dead and roughly 40,000 MIA. Most of whom will be dead, but they can't confirm that. That's roughly 2.5:1. Cherry pick your stats much?

Cherry pick my stats? All are quotes (by Zelensky the deluded) this very week?

You've chosen to pick the statistics you like, and completely ignore the fact that 31k is the confirmed dead. If that isn't cherry picking stats then what is it? If we stick to confirmed deaths only then the kill ratio is roughly 1.5:1. Again, numbers given by Ukraine if you could be bothered to find them.

There's no sense in comparing confirmed deaths to unconfirmed ones. That's idiocy.

Because the Russian strategy was quite literally to throw the undesirables from Wagner and the occupied terriories in as human bullet shields to arrive at this exact result? It's inhuman, but it's not incompetent. And it's worked.
where is the evidence of this?

Putin has reinforced their military with a very unpopular "partial mobilization" and a couple of "conscription cycles" per year. The military are also concentrating their "force generation" efforts onto the migrant population and people of ethnicities other than "Russian", raiding prisons, encouraging the regional administrations to raise "volunteer battalions" and failing to release conscripts / volunteers / contract soldiers who have served the full term of the contract originally signed. Note that the original conscription terms state that the conscript would not serve outside Russia [aka in Ukraine] ... note also that a significant proportion of the crew of the Moskva were - allegedly - conscripts.
the most unpopular conscription im seeing is ukrainians.

I picked the statistics quoted by Zelensky in the article I linked to. He quoted Ukrainian dead vs Russian dead.

Not obtuse merely pointing out the fact that he never stated 5:1 anywhere. I accept that he has been quoted stating the figures you have posted but they do not reduce down to 5:1 not even by your own calculations and he never said that precise ratio in any case.

It's unpopular doubly. The families with members in service think it's unfair that their loved ones have been stuck in a war for two years straight, and the families that don't think that's totally fair and don't want to send their sons and fathers to die. Russians seem to be more pragmatic about it.
