UK music industry, bands, work permits and Brexit

"It's about the bands, promoters, roadies and all the other people whose livelihood depends on being able to play, promote and sell music abroad."

The amount of current bands " whose livelihood depends on being able to play, promote and sell music abroad " ?
would v be surprised if we're talking triple figures, and not entirely sure it would be double figures - can anyone name a single band they can think of that can't make a living here, but can in any EU territory ? .... its hard enough making any money from UK gigs in this day and age, let alone lumping in a load of travel / transportation costs to EU on top.... making money on EU mainland is for established / successful bands only, surely ?

And not saying they shouldn't be able to, but it's hard to get to get too down about the prospect of EU live revenue streams getting chipped away at by increased bureaucracy for these bigger bands tbh.
You might be surprised how many bands make a living - or at least supplement a meagre wage - on the European club/festival/entertainment circuit.

OK front 242.

And who else?

Crème Brulé - they nearly signed to Pickwick Records in '79 and promptly fell apart, but the second bassist moved to Belgium in 92. He reformed the band - he was the only original member - and they have been quietly playing the east coast clubs since about 98. They pop over every couple of weeks...

I've always liked the fact that 40 percent of the music played on French radio stations has to be in the French language.
It’s only fair, we don’t quite have an equivalent for stuff like “Requiem for a twat” in english(though he’s a bit of a creepy fucker, is Serjjj.)

Ever toured Europe in a band before it was open borders? I did and it was a fucking pain and if we end up having to get visas - like we do for America - then it will absolutely become financially unsustainable for small bands to play Europe and vice versa.

And the impact is already being felt for bands coming into the UK

'A Brexited flatland’: Peter Gabriel hits out after Womad stars refused entry to UK
This is disingenuous if you read it properly. The hoops people had to jump through and the time it took is what put them off, i can't see anything stating there was flat refusals and denial of entry.

Give them your NHS money back noiy!

Chris Smith, the director of this weekend’s Womad festival, told the Radio Times that for the first time musicians had rejected invitations rather than face the “humiliation” of confronting Britain’s visa services. “Culture is being crushed as politicians lurch to the right,” he said. “My fear is the situation is only going to get worse.” Yet this is a time when divided communities need the soothing balm of art and unifying power of music reaching across borders more than ever.

So some geezer raking it in from festivals speaks and the guardian are all over it. Shame he/they never mentioned this before the referendum
