Er...wow. I did not know this.

the Conservatives "pay to play" rules require the final four candidates, as decided by Conservative MPs on 10 September, to pay £50,000 to CCHQ.

Following the last round of MPs voting, the final two candidates will be required to pay another £150,000 to the central party headquarters

Bloody idiots.

Well the candidates all have their own fund-raising going on, whereas the party is nearly bankrupt, so I guess they need to their cover costs, still bloody weird.

So...my impression right now is the final two will be Jenrick and Cleverly. I just don't think Tugenhat has the momentum, and clearly Badenoch is damaged gods in terms of popularity. Conventional wisdom suggests Jenrick will win with the members but I'm not entirely sure...

That is a bizarre way to run a party.

Why don't they just auction the leadership off to the highest bidder, and let whichever donor is prepared to pay the most choose the next one?

At least it would be more transparent.

Principles for sale!! Get Yer Principles here!! Going Cheap!!

I think you'll find they are all doing that
That depends on your worldview and let's face its not some homogeneous blob, there is plenty of variance in that...the Green Party aren't the same as Reform, Plaid Cymru isn't the same as the LibDems etc...this stuff is really obvious.

Tugendhat out. Wah wah. So now it's between horrid 'anti-woke' Badenoch, smarmy twat Cleverly, or clueless prick du jour Jenrick.

Only 1 vote between Jenrick and Badenoch. So we could end up with a Jenrick v Cleverly faceoff assuming more votes transfer from Tugendhat to Jenrick.

"Cleverly" must pick up the lion's share of Tugendhat's wet support to see him in the play off against Generic?

Can't stand Cleverly but I can't stand Jenrick even more. So hoping for a Jenrick v Cleverly faceoff.

However, what if the Tory membership still votes along racial lines. We could end up with Jenrick. So er, best strategic outcome perhaps Cleverly v Badenoch? But then we could end up with worst case scenario Bedenoch because who knows which way they'd go then. Fucking minefield this one.

Do we get to hear the number of spoilt ballots? If so, let's hope for Cleveley vs Badenoch. Be quite funny if the tory faithful all scrawl a new check box and write Nigel Farage on the bottom of their forms

What a choice.

A man who really does prove that nominative determination doesn't exist.

A man who would steal the clothes off a tramp.

A woman who would go out of her way to make Thatcher look like a LibDem.

Every time we have one of these (and it feels like we've had a lot of them recently), I think the runners can't be worse than the last time. I am clearly a fool.

(And is there actually anyone left in the PCC who hasn't had a go at some point...? :hmm: )
It is a truth universally acknowledged that each new prime minister and party leader is crapper than their predecessor

The clear winner is Nigel Farage who'll be relishing the next series of council elections/by-elections against parties led by Two Tier & Jenrick/Cleverly/Badenoch.
