The Reform UK Party (latest nigel farage vehicle) is it to be laughed at or not

oh, yes, i was thinking more about their advertising and noise 'we are the anti foreigners party' etc , rather than their actual impact.

Yeah, I was picking holes in your “state of Government” bit. Rhetorically there are some connections.

The NF always supported a strong NHS in their rhetoric, mind. The Tories don’t even pretend any more.

The insurgent party of the right will have to be pretty extreme now to set itself apart and get those tory votes. Maybe they'll be brainstorming capital punishment for selected foreigners or something, for their flyers.

I dunno, fairly easy to position as the party that points out how the incumbents have fucked up what was sold as the paradise of post-brexit britain

8% is quite a lot, to be getting already, isnt it? especially if you look at how unbelievably shit their website is.

We just had Trump spouting off about CP for all drugs offences tbf.

Considering it’s such a marginal party anyway, I think that’s a risk that might pay off, especially if couched in terms of some kind of consultation / “putting back on the table” discussion etc.

I think it would be aimed at stuff like child murderers moreso than foreigners.

Ok, he’s a dick, but splitting the Tory vote is a service to us all.
I'm not sure he does split the Tory vote. He and the Euro-sceptic press have made the Tories move to the right in the last 15 years, but they've been the biggest party at every GE in that time.

It was always a fash word for "Jews". No idea what refuck means now :hmm:
Much as I hate farage and all his parties I don't think it always means this in this context (though it sometimes does). Essentially the far-right have become anti-globalisation (in theory*), but they don't like that left wing word so they say they are anti globalist. Sometimes this is basically a stance against free trade and free movement, while other times it shades into conspiracy territory and something much dodgier. The ambiguity is I'm sure one of the things Farage enjoys.

*Since the main promoters of the far right are rich, and benefit from globalisation, it's difficult to take it all at face value, but a lot of their base more meaningfully buy into it.

I get that, but I don’t think there are many voters still voting Labour that are likely to be fooled by him at this point.

the "globalist" term crops up a lot on Gammon Chat (the spectator facebook comments page) - I often ask people what it means but they tend to become coy and defensive ("look it up yourself" etc). Definitely nods towards the idea that there's a covert move towards a world globalist government - set up by woke socialists and the WEF. Most politicians outside of the trumpists and tory wing nuts are dismissed as "globalist/WEF puppets" whilst REFUK are often mentioned as the "only party worth voting for".

So basically means ‘not a patriot’ can’t be trusted to put the interests of our country first and so on which I can see how that might evolve from its traditional use as euphemism for Jews.

globalist is another example of how the left has lost territory that is ours to the far right
anti-globalisation and critique of the media were key planks in the late 90s/early 2000s, of course framed very differently, now the preserve of the far-right and conspiracy cranks

Anti-globalisation maybe, I don't know there was ever a time when 'Globalist' wasn't extremely dodgy.

Question it now and you'll be called anti semitic by people who think the jews run the world

Yep, how convenient for globalised/transnational corporations and fincap that criticism of them can so easily be cast as anti-semitic.
